I know it is morbid but god forbid something happened I would want to be w/ them.

I think there are two separate issues here: a) do you think your DH is up to the challenge of handling your toddler alone on a flight; and b) how do you feel about them both being together, away from you, if the unthinkable happened?
DH would be great with DD on a plane, as he is with her anywhere, but I would be very anxious until I knew they had landed safely. When DH travels for work I wait for his call that he is there in one piece. Just a sad product of the world we live in, I guess.
