Would you change DC preschool mid-year

I have had a handful of concerns with my child's NYS funded UPK, I am considering changing my child's preschool because of the concerns. I am having a hard time deciding because it's already January, I would be taking her from the few friends she knows and putting her in a new school mid year but at the same time, she is not happy going to school each day and there are 5 more months of school. We have been trying to stick it out because we know we will not always get a teacher we will like but I am very torn- please help!

Here are a few of our concerns:
-When teacher has been out sick a few times and they are not having a NYS certified sub come into the classroom (leaving the class with 2 aids)
-DD coming home most days (at least 4 out of 5) unhappy, sad about friends, or angry.
-When I have expressed my concerns with the director she is defensive/today when I dropped off everyone had their heads down and did not greet us
-my child does not seem to be bonding with the teachers (she had no problem with this last year)
-teachers do not seem to be happy, excited, bring any fun learning to the classroom.

Am I expecting too much? I have tried to just deal but can't decide if I should make the change or not.

DS is in private preK & loves it.
I'd change his elementary school if he hated it.

I would probably change her going by your concerns. Yes, the transition to a new school will be hard but I think it's for the best in the long run and she would probably be happier. Sorry you're dealing with this.

yes I'd change to a new school. at that age kids adapt very quickly.

based on your concerns it seems like it would be for the best.

Kids at this age adapt really well.

DS did not care at all when half of his friends at school went to K (mixed age preschool). He found new ones in one day.

Get your kid into whatever YOU think is going to be the best environment.

I would be leary of changing schools mid year but given that your DD is unhappy and not enjoying it, I would definitely pull her out and change schools. My DS goes to a private pre-K and he is always so happy when we pick him up. He loves it.

I would definitely change for sure he is still young and it is not normal for a preschooler to come home so unhappy!!

Change... You don't want her hating school at a young age. It sets the stage for her school career. She will be resilient!

I would make sure you have another school lined up before pulling her. I know the preschool DS attends was full for the year by the spring before.

That's so unfortunate! I would change. We had the total opposite experience with UPK. The teachers were all amazing. GL!

Def switch. I tell everyone if they are not doing well switch. It's just like adults. Not everyone gets along. There's so many people that keep their kids and hate it. I don't understand why anyone would pay all that money for school and hate every moment of it.

I would in your case since she's not happy.

When I was young my mom withdrew me from nursery school since I hated it and it was for the best for both of us.

Yes I would change. You are laying the ground work for 12+ years of education and you want it to be a positive experience for your child.

And you could make the whole new school thing soooo exciting! If DD considers it a big deal and a big wonderful happy surprise, she will love it and her transition will be great!

change. this is DC first ever school experience, and will set the tone for the rest of their school life. They need to have fun, be comfortable, happy, etc. so i would definitely start looking around to find a new place. my son is 4 and goes to preschool 3 Ams a week. there are definitely days (like this AM) that he's not thrilled about going (just like adults have days they just don't feel like going anywhere haha) he cries a little bit at drop off.... but when i peek in the door a couple minutes later, he's fine. and when i pick him up, he comes running out, showng me what he has in his backpack and all of that. his teacher is always enthusiastic and welcoming. i definitely say to find something that is a better fit for you guys, and sets a better tone for the rest of his school years.

Yes I would switch. It's been too long for DC to still be having such a rough time. It doesn't seem like the right fit, and I wouldn't hesitate to find someplace where your DC will thrive.

Thank you all for your kind words and honest opinions. The teacher was in today and pulled me aside and seemed to be trying to make things right. I am still not sure if it's the right fit for us though. We do have another school lined up, but I am still completly unsure of what to do and I really want / need to decide by the end of the week..
