Re: Would you be upset if...
My husband had a sabbatical for 2 months last year.
We went away for one week and he visited his parents in Florida for a few days. But the remainder of the time (6-7 weeks or so) he stayed home.
Because of my work schedule, I couldn't even take a Friday off to spend a long weekend with him.
I didnt want him to travel without me, nor did he want to go without me.
He played golf, relaxed, watched the ball games and napped during the day.

Uhh...that would be a YES for me Not cool at all. Especially since our honeymoon was the first "real" vacation we've ever been on that required leaving NY

I'd definitely be jealous.
I guess upset would depend on where he was going and why.
Is he going to visit family? I would be okay.
Or is he going to some awesome place we plan to go together some day? I'd be upset.
I have to agree.

I guess I am the odd man out here. For me, it would depend on where he is going. If its somewhere we dreamed of going together that would be the only instance I would be mad. Although there are plenty of things to do locally, I would never begrudge him of using his sabatical to the fullest.

I agree. I wold encourage him to enjoy his time off. But if it was somewhere I wanted to go, I would be mad, otherwise if we have the money, go have fun, that's what life is about. DH and I love traveling though (we dream more than actual do, LOL) so I would never tell him no! :)

Um, yes. Thank god my husband is a lazy sod and would never do that.
HOWEVER, for perhaps, someone who was British, that probably isn't all that unusual...

I agree also. It depend on the specifics. I'm sure some kind of compromise could be worked out.

I know, it's true, I think. Seb's dad is a teacher and goes on trips by himself every summer - granted it's usually walking through the mountains or something
And I guess technically, my dad used to go hunting every year for a week at a time without my mother for the longest time.
I'm trying not to overreact because it's probably likely he won't get his sabbatical (his company was just bought out and that's why this came up in the first place). I was just really surprised that he said that. He did say he'd want to spend part of it with me, so I guess when it comes down to it, we could take two weeks together and then he could go somewhere on his own for a week (he mentioned something about boy/jungle type stuff ) We'll see.

I would miss him, and be jealous...but he has a point.
as long as he couldn't be putting the time to better use, I would rather him use his sabbatical for something great...and try to make arrangements to meet him for a long weekend or 2.

Re: Would you be upset if...
As long as it didn't negatively effect our spending and/or saving - I wouldn't expect him to sit at home for a month - I think that's kind of selfish .......... On the other hand, if he's spending our vacation/home improvement/ 'whatever' fund, THEN it's an issue for me -

Re: Would you be upset if...
Yes. Only because I know I would stay home if I had a month off cause I would miss him too much. It would hurt me that he seemed to not feel the same. Maybe a week away would be OK, but two weeks is so so long
