I interviewed one person that told me had horrible time management skills and needs a secretary in order to keep him on time to goto meetings, appointments, etc.

It was a Skype interview, and also at one point in the background a dude walked by with no shirt on and made breakfast.

At that point I wanted to hire breakfast dude instead, at least he doesn't need a secretary to make him breakfast. And he was shirtless.

I once interviewed a kid on campus at Villanova that had breath that reeked of alcohol from the night before (no way he brushed his teeth) and had buffalo sauce on his chin. Mind you, this interview was at 9am on a Tuesday. He actually wrote me a thank you email later that day and I was truly tempted to tell him why we were not goong forward with him but I had to be professional :)

I really wish I could be frank with people about why I didn't hire them.

My favorite was the woman who interviewed for a position. She had a very good resume, was dressed professionally and was on time for the interview.

When I asked her to describe a time where she dealt with someone who was very difficult, she said

"Well I work with (insert ethnic group) & you know how they can be."

Yeah this was for an HR position.

I've also have VP that blew off two phone interviews with the candidate. I reamed him & cc'd our SVP on the email.

Funny enough, my worst interview was for the job I have now and have been there for 6 years. It was with the CEO at the time. He work black faded jeans to the interview. He asked me a number of strange questions. Keep in mind at the time I was 35. He asked my college GPA(really? I had already worked in multiple professional jobs at this point.) When I told him it was around 3.2, he said. Oh. Would you consider yourself an underachiever? LOL. After I got the job, most everyone that had interviewed with him had a similar story. He was not involved at all in day to day operations and is no longer with the company. He was basically clueless. He actually came on an appointment with me to a state university. Anyone who has ever worked with any of those knows there is a long and arduous contract and approval process. He asked the client to sign a contract that day. We all looked at him like he had 2 heads.

My worst was right after college when I moved to Tucson. I had a finance degree and was a teller for 6 yrs so naturally I was applying to bank jobs. I interviewed for a CSR position at a local bank with the branch manager. He couldn't have been more than 5-7 yrs older than me at the time (so maybe 30). He started with normal interview questions and after 2 or 3, he said, you know, there's no need to continue with these formalities, we both know you're going to answer everything perfectly. At this point, I'm thinking, sweet, I'm landing a decent salaried position. No, he then says, but here's the thing, I'm thinking teller. I said well, I understand why you would say that, but I'm here to interview for the CSR position. And he then launched into this diatribe;
I know how it is, I get it, I was young once. Now that you're out of college, you think you should be making the big bucks, sitting in the corner office. But that's not how things work, you need to work to get there. So, we will offer you a job as a teller at a salary of less than half of the job you so applied for and then maybe in a couple years, we can have another discussion. I even tried to negotiate a higher starting wage, given my prior experience and the fact that I had a degree for a position that didn't even require one and he said no, i don't negotiate and only after a year, could I possibly come up for a $0.50 an hour raise. I took the job just because I had nothing else lined up, but two days after starting, I got another job and quit on the spot. And of course the jackass said oh let me guess, someone's paying you way more money and you're just leaving for that aren't you? I lied and said, nope, I'm getting paid less but I won't be working here.

Yikes! I honestly think sometimes interviewers forget that it's not only the interviewee that has to sell something. The interviewer has to sell the company as well. I've seen it in my own company. I was the supervisor in charge of hiring in my previous department. I had someone come up to me to inform me that they had an external hire sitting with them for a job preview that should be a half hour for over an hour. The interviewing supervisor literally forgot about the person!
And had no shame in telling them that!!!

My worst experience actually was with my current company. It's a large, reputable company & it's widely known that the interview may be multiple steps. I was called in & told to be ready for about 1.5 hours of interviewing. It ended up being 5 hours!!! Turns out they were in a hurry to hire & pushed me through all levels in 5 days. I had to ask the recruiting agent if I could make a phone call so I could call my mom to get my daughter off the bus because I realized I clearly wasn't going to make it. I was starving at the end not to mention I had lost my voice entirely & was diagnosed with tonsilitis at urgent care that night! 5 years & 4 promotions later, I'm glad I stuck it out. But it was a reputable company that came recommended from friends though.

As an interviewer I have some great stories! I had an internal hire going for promotion ask "so what exactly is this job? What do you do in this department?" She thought that was an insightful question! I started asking an external hire a scenario based question & she responded "I have no job experience what-so-ever. You may as well skip this section because I have no answers." We were looking to hire college students & expected limited experience but

Seems they did you a big favor. I'd be like "Well I don't wanna see YOUR face!" and storm out....because I'm mature like that.
