Winthrop vs plainview

I am having a scheduled c-section, my OB delivers at both. He's asking which I want, my issue is, if I go to Winthrop my OB will be there, but he will have a resident assisting, this makes me nervous, but I do feel Winthrop is the nicer of the two, I am just super super nervous about the surgery enough and I just can't make a decision!! Any thoughts either way?

In speaking with friends in the business (nurses who work at various L&Ds), I would go Winthrop over Plainview. One of the things they said to consider - while you never expect or want anything to go wrong, or there to be any issues, you have to prepare - was the NICU of the hospital. Winthrop has an excellent NICU. Plus they just redid their "birthing suites"! http://www.winthrop.org/departments/institutes/family/nlc/delivery.cfm#ldr.

I would pick Winthrop. They have a better NICU unit. You never go in thinking you need the NICU but I would rather have a good one than have to transfer.

I had a resident assitisting and it was fine.

Also, not to diss any of the doc's out there, but the NURSES are the ones who do the biggest portion of the work (in any department in a hospital) and nurses are extremely well qualified.

Winthrop's NICU is excellent- DS was there for 2 days.

I had a great stay at Winthrop. I even had my own room for 5 days!

Thanks for all the replies!! I was leaning more towards Winthrop, just because it is nicer, I am just a nervous Nelly, and I know my OB will be right there, but still. Although people have said that sometimes the residents are better because they are so new, they do everything perfectly! I think I am going to go to Winthrop, I just want to see who does the actual cutting, the OB or the resident!

Thanks so much for making it a little easier!!

Winthrop... For all the reasons the previous posters have given. I had DD there in February and everything was perfect. They have one of the best state of the art NICUs ion LI and you will most like
Y have your own room. Everyone is very attentive to you. I would not have wanted to give birth any where else.

Re: Winthrop vs plainview

I delivered my son in Northshore Plainview and I thought they were great. The hospital was not very busy so I got lots of attention and I had a huge room to myself.

Re: Winthrop vs plainview

I have no expierence in Plainview, but Winthrop is amazing hands down... I had my DD there. and I didn't even realize there was someone assiting my dr. My Dr, still did everything.

I am so happy to hear such amazing things in the NICU, but Aunt is the Nurse Manager in that department. And even just doing march of dimes 2 weeks ago, tons of mothers and fathers came up to her while we were walking thanking her and raving about the NICU. It was so wonderful to hear!

I had dd at plainview 5 years ago, it wasn't terrible, but I def think Winthrop is better. I have to see who does the actually cutting and make sure my OB is in there the entire time. I am terrified of the surgery so I am a little neurotic.

Winthrop, my DS was born at almost 7 lbs at 36weeks and I never expected a week long NICU stay and was happy I was somewhere with a great NICU.

my OB had a resident assisting but she was just assisting, he performed the main part of the surgery.
