Why won't they knock on our door?

I replaced the outside light to make it brighter, lights are on inside, I have a bowl of chocolate... But no one has knocked yet.

I hear them out there too. But they walk by. I guess I'm bringing a lot of candy to work tomorrow.

Parents who go trick or treating with your kids - do you skip houses? What makes you skip, besides if you know the neighbors?

When I was young I NEVER skipped houses except the one house in the neighborhood that was really scary-- and I DOUBT your house looks like that one did!

Do you have decorations up? When we were kids, we were only allowed to knock on doors with decorations. I noticed a group of parents in my bldg. checking for decorations, too, before letting their kids ring the bell.

We rarely skip houses... usually only if there are no visible cars, or if I know the people there are elderly and I don't want to make them come to the door.

Sometimes the boys will not want to go to a house if it isn't decorated. They think that people who don't have Halloween decorations up aren't going to have good candy.

But on the bright side - you are going to be popular at your job tomorrow!

ETA: Last year we missed a few people because the kids knock REALLY softly sometimes. Also - our doorbell wasn't working so the kids would ring and we didn't hear anything. Do you have a doorbell???

Not a chance on skipping houses. The only house we skip is the one with the kids running away from the door saying "No one is home."

I saw a group of about 10-15 kids with their parents walk right down the middle of my street. My door was open, I have decorations outside and a wooden pumpkin in my window. No takers. I rang EVERY door bell when I was a kid.

Ya know what, you must be right, it's the decorations.

We didn't have much to begin with, but what we did have is packed in boxes.

Wow. Never even thought of that.

We do have a doorbell and Rusty is sitting in the living room, where the front door is. So if anyone comes, he'll definitely hear them.

I have crispy chocolate caramel peanut butter goodness. My coworkers are going to looooove me.

I only had one kid since 5pm. It was busier in the afternoon, but it's been dead since then. Glad I came home from work early or I would have had tons of candy left.

We just got five kids and all Rusty said was "Have a good night"

I said honey... You have to say Happy Halloween! And then look them over and say Wow! You guys look great! and if you're feeling brave, make individual comments about their outfits.

We have had a ton I am almost out of candy I am hoping it died down now.

I dont get any trick or treaters. I guess it's where we are located. Their arent many houses it's a bit of walk to go house to house. A lot of the kids go to the mall or to the stores.

This year I bought 2 small bags of candy just in case we got little ones. We didnt even get the little girls that live down the block.

I didn't get home from work until 5:30 so I'm sure I missed a bunch of the little ones.

We also have to very long blocks perpendicular to our block (one on either end). So I feel like parents just go down those blocks and skip us little guys.

We have had a few stragglers here and there, but no mad rushes.

We only had one group of little girls...My DH told them to take as much as they wanted! So I guess I am bringing the rest to work tomorrow

I was thinking about this as well....I bought so much candy last year and waited like an anxious little kid to give it out....4 kids knocked...even with my decorations and funny jack o'lanterns.

I do notice a lot of families around here bringing their kids in to stores and shops instead of private homes.
Maybe there is a bit of Halloween paranoia?

We had people skip our house too! One of our front lights isn't working but, I kept the door open!

My neighbor told me we get a lot of kids to be ready - so I was ready - and we got about 20 (that's counting the 6 teenage boys who came two times twice!)

I took a lot to mean A LOT! I grew up in a neighborhood on LI where my parents went through over 10 bags of candy and then had to give away all my candy to the trick or treaters - and still ran out. A lot isn't quite as much up here in the northern suburbs!!!

I just got off the phone with my mom and she got over 200 kids

ETA: The people at work are going to love me too - I have about 9 bags of candy to bring in tomorrow!!!

Where we grew up in Levittown, there was a constant stream of kids at the door. That was a major family area.

I wonder if my neighborhood now just doesn't have as many children.

We skipped any house that didnt have a car in the driveway - but we started early with my stepdaughters - we knew people werent home yet....
