 Re: Locks of Love
My best friend did and so did another one of her girlfriends who is a cancer survivor. I think she had to be able to donate 10 inches or something like that.

I am going to get my hair chopped today and I have 10 or 11 inches that could go.

I have about 10 inches to give but it would leave me with really short hair!! I have too big of a head for short hair!!

 Re: Locks of Love
My cousin and her daugther did this. I think it was so nice. They both had really long hair. I had been planning on growing my hair out really long to try and do it, but now I've gotten it straightened, so I don't know if they would even take it.

I think they will take it as long as it's not damaged, and i think they won't take bleached hair

 Re: Locks of Love
I've done it twice. I only had 8 inches the first time then 7 the next. They take whatever hair you can give them (it doesn't have to be 10 inches). They send you a post card in the mail thanking you. It's a nice feeling.

 Re: Locks of Love
I did when the amount of hair you had to donate was smaller... Now I think it is 10-12 inches.

 Re: Locks of Love
Rules from http://www.locksoflove.org
We accept 10" minimum hair length (tip to tip), not wigs, falls, or synthetic hair Please bundle hair in ponytail or braid. Hair needs to be clean, dry, placed in a plastic bag, then padded envelope. We need hair from men and women, young and old, all colors and races. Hair may be colored or permed, but not bleached or chemically damaged (if unsure, ask your stylist). Hair swept off the floor is not usable. Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or braid. Hair that is short, gray, or unsuitable for children will be separated from the ponytails and sold at fair market value to offset the cost of manufacturing. You may pull curly hair straight to measure the minimum 10". The majority of all hair donated comes from children who wish to help other children. Layered hair may be divided into multiple ponytails for donation. Please note: Anyone can cut your hair as long as the above guidelines are followed.

They takes permed, so I don't see why they won't take straightened

 Re: Locks of Love
I've done it 3 times in the past 10 years. Its a wonderful organization!! There are many salons that participate in this program and offer free hair cuts to those that donate. FM me if you need salon recommendations.

 Re: Locks of Love
there are many students in my school that have done this! I think it is a wonderful, selfless idea, especially coming from 8 and 9 year olds!!!!!
I would love to do it but my hair is colored. i have to ask my colorist if it is ok.. since using a straightening iron, my hair has become more damaged and has split ends...
