Why do you think it doesn't work sometimes?
Like, you've timed it all right, you know you've ovulated, DH is guys are fine, lots of EWCM ...but still BFN?
I'm only 3dpo of our first month TTC, but I'm just curious - in a way I'd almost rather not be PG this month because of some stuff we have going on in September, but only if I could guarantee I'd get pregnant for sure next month! Stupid, I know! But I just wonder why it works some months and not others.

Honestly, I don't believe that at all. Plenty of stressed out people get pregnant all the time. In fact, I got pregnant my first time around when I had strep throat and was stressed to the nines. I miscarried and conceived one week later, and trust me, I was as stressed as it gets just one week following a traumatic experience like a m/c.
I really just think it's the run of luck.

Re: Why do you think it doesn't work sometimes?
actually this may sound corny, but relaxing just kind of "happened" to me the month i got PG.
i am naturally a very anxious person, who is not easily able to just "relax" about stuff like that, but after i O'd this time, it was like i was in a permanent state of peacefullness. i totally noticed that little things that usually drive me nuts like traffic and waiting on line just weren't bothering me anymore.
i am not sure if it had anything to do with conception and implantation, but i'd like to think my body was kind of forcing me to relax so it would happen!

I agree with this as well. There are studies that stress can affect ovulation, but I don't think stress has anything to do with actually conceiving. Many times an egg can be fertilized, but something isn't right. The number of chromosomes or some other genetic defect, and nothing else happens besides fertilization. Or there is something wrong with the egg, so it can't be fertilized. Or things just don't "line up" right. For most people, this "not rightness" only happens a few times, which is why most will get pregnant within a few months.
Plenty of people who have stressful lives and/or careers get pregnant every day. I think doctors say this as a way of getting us not to agonize over every detail of TTC.

Re: Why do you think it doesn't work sometimes?
You want to know why I think it doesn't work all the time even under the perfect conditions?
My answer: the world cannot handle that many people at once. Imagine if every woman of childbearing age got PG at the same time every 9-10 months? I think there is a plan. It cannot be meant to work every time.

I agree with this as well. Sometimes the egg isn't of good quality or the sperm ins't. However after a few months of great timing and normal ovulation, then there's a good chance something's wrong. When you think of it, those who took a long time to get pregnant (over 1 year) usually had issues.

I was recently thinking about this too! If the stars are aligned, everything is perfect why doesn't it "stick"???
I agree that stress isn't good but I don't think that is the deal breaker. I know LOTS of stressed out people-particularly when I was in college that got PG, and were certainly not trying.
I just think that there are many variables involved...some months it's just not meant to be.

Re: Why do you think it doesn't work sometimes?
I just wrote this down on Spooks recent 'discouraged' post
there are tons of reasons why we don't get pregnant.... outside of added unfortunate fertility issues.
Say we're lucky and we definitely fertilized the egg.... there's apparently only a 25% chance that egg will both divide (be viable) and sucessfully implant in the uterine wall. Right off the bat we likely have to try several months (and time things perfectly every month) to get pregnant.
then there are the other random factors.... stress, loss of sleep....
I'm trying to find solace in this imperfect process.... I'm trying to keep in mind this is nature's way to avoid less than healthy pregnancies and babies

Re: Why do you think it doesn't work sometimes?
I've always wondered that too. I think I have to agree with everyone above who said it's just nature's way. You have to wonder how many of the times that you had a BFN that fertilization may have occured, but it didn't implant for some reason. Or maybe the sperm were trying, but the egg wasn't viable to be fertilized. Then supposedly, there are tons of miscarriages that occur before it's possible to know you were ever pregnant. It will happen when it's meant to I suppose.
