it's b/c most people that live/work in the city are trying to get from A to B....and I know it drives me NUTS when I see someone walking aimlessly through the streets when I am trying to get somewhere on time.

especially tourists who STOP in the middle of the sidwalk to GAWK at stuff.

have some common sense when you walk people...if you want to walk slow, don't do it down the main artery of the walk way...scootch over to the side and you won't get knocked down.

also, there are just so many people, if you are in a rush, there is never a clear path to get by.

I am sorry if it frustrating to you. it's frustrating to us speed demons too.

I totally hear where you are coming from re: tourists etc, but I don't think it's cool to purposely bump or push an elderly person, pregnant woman, mother with child, child etc. It's just uncalled for. If that's the case, then they should have "sides" for people to walk on because these same people that push don't stay to one side..they scatter all over so there is never a clear path to walk for anyone.

how many people do this? I mean really..I've seen people push others...but the conjured image here is of old people, women and children sprawled on the ground while we meanies bulldoze them out of our way.

It's a fast pace, and you do occasionally "brush" past others, but I think your description is a bit "much"

and again I say...it's like driving, if your going slow...get out of the left lane.

I by no means said I saw people sprawled on the ground while they get bulldozed, nor do I think my description is/was a bit much...because I see it DAILY.

I think some people in NYC (and not tourists) are just mean, miserable beings and thats why they have no consideration for others. I can't tell you how many times people have bumped into me, walked right into me, etc etc...you just gotta go with the flow and accept it. Bc if you don't then you'll become one of them...miserable.

yeah it sucks but with millions of people in the streets during the day, someone is bound to get jostled!! Chat Icon

Yeah but being a regular commuter I see this everyday and it is kind of frustrating...but you do get used to it though...

ETA: My biggest pet peeve is the "ladies with the chip on their shoulder"...those b!tches could really just STFU once and for all when you accidentally bump into them.

Im a regular commuter too....have been doing it for almost 20 years Chat Icon Ive been pushed and have pushed many time during that time!!

There are "mean, miserable beings" in many other places than NYC. Living and working here, and trying get from point A to point B as quickly as possible, while trying to dodge the hordes of people on the street can make anyone frustrated. Not really fair to generalize residents and commuters of NYC as mean and miserable when we're all trying cohabitate in one of the most congested areas of the country.

But there is NO need to push people over / out of the way.....I used to work in the city too and yeah, I ran for the train but never did I knock anyone out of the way. Guaranteed there will be another train along in a minute or so...

Re: Why are people

My main problem is the people who mosey... Mosey-ing is for Sundays ONLY... why are you mosey-ing thru Penn Station at rush hour?! That, IMO, is cause to get bumped and pushed...

ALSO, this is the very reason why I don't walk to 8 blocks back to Penn at 5:00.. I have to walk passed Macy's on my way and at 5:00 that place is a zoo with all of the tourists trying to take a pictures in front of Macy's... IT'S MACY'S FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! There's one in every town... why durning rush our do these people feel the need to mosey and take pictures of a department store that is more than likely within 30 mins of their house back in Iowa!

I don't think people knock others over on purpose, but when you're just standning there looking around aimlessly while clearly there are people rushing about around you, you're bound to get a little bump here and there...

I think there should be a no photgraphy rule during peak periods. The stopping short to take a picture drives me nuts.

I agree with you that if moseying has to be allowed it should be Sundays only, but have you ever had to to work on a weekend! That is maddening.

I have to go to evets in mid-town doem times & it's bad enoguht that subways aren't always runing normally, and then streets are blocked off for movies or walk-a-thons or street fairs, and then you have crowds of people who seem to have have come in in to the city just to stand around & stare at things.

ITA...it used to drive me crazy. If I was even 1 minute late for my subway, I'd miss the express train home & then would have to take the much later train with many more stops & get home a whole 47 minutes later....all for one minuteChat Icon

Agreed...and thanks for making me laugh!! Doesn't happen on purpose...we don't walk with the intention of attacking someone!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Thank you!! If I see one more person take a picture of the sidewalk I swear I will crack and be forced to hurt them. Is it really that important to you to take the picture and make someone trip over you????

I do admit that I have sidewalk rage! I have "accidentally" Chat Icon hit people with my umberella or purse because they stopped short in front of me and almost made me fall.
