I answered my mom, because it was at her house, and I think she paid for a lot of it, but my sister was also a big part of it.

actually my dh threw it. It was held at our home, and it was perfect. He went all out to make sure the guests had a wonderful time and made my day extra special..

My mil paid for the venue but I pd for everything else. I didnt want her to do anything (not for any other reason than money is tight for her) but she fought us on it.

My mom paid for the restaurant, but I planned everything and paid for invitations, favors and centerpieces. My MIL paid for the cake. For my second DS my fiends threw me a surprise brunch sprinkle that they all chipped in for.

I planned the whole thing with my mother, but my parents paid for the entire thing - MIL did not help at all. Nor did she help with my bridal shower, the wedding or DD's first birthday. I'm not bitter or anything

Don't feel bad, my MIL had no involvement in anything you mentioned. ANd the cake she made a big stink about getting was a sheet cake from the supermarket.

I guess when you don't help out at all anything you do is a big deal - even a sheet cake!
And MIL came to DD's first birthday party with only a green and blue first year frame that was clearly for boys and "bought that morning." And no, it is not that she can't afford anything else!
