Who is TTC and live in...
a 1 bedroom apt???
Do you think it matters if you don't have a house yet and are TTC??
Thoughts on this??

Well we have a 2 bdrm but the other bedrm has workout stuff in it, a huge armoir & a massive desk/computer---we actually just found out we're pregnant so I'm stressing, but we'll make due.
Our feeling on this is, would you rather wait & have the house only to find out you can't have kids as easily as you thought or some other issue?
People always make due....it'll be fine. The baby is in your room for the first few months anyway.

Hi! We are just starting TTC and have been thinking about this lately because we have to decide whether to sign another one year lease or not.
I don't want to move out of the city right now because the commute would mean not seeing DH as much - right now we can see each other at lunch and hours earlier and he can leave later in the morning and that I think is sooooo important for me while PG and for the newborn.
We currently live in a small one br in nyc though. I'm going to stick it out for now and see what happens. I do plan on living in an apt though for at least the first year of the baby's life but hopefully a bigger one br. I think its totally doable though especially if you have a dining area you can convert to a br. i know many people who just keep the baby in their room as well.
Sorry this is so long but ive been stressing as well and im interested in hearing from those who have a baby in a one br if they exist.

We have a one bedroom and a dining room/extra room we are converting to a second BR for the baby.
I think well people raise 5 kids in one bedrooms houses in extreme circumstances.
a baby is not going to remember where it slept for years.....

we'll be TTC soon and we're in a 1BR. if our BR was bigger, i would prob stay here another year but we'll move to a 2BR when we have a baby and ultimately buy a house.

If we waited until we could afford to buy a house to have children, we may not have children. Not everyone has a house. We are fortunate to have a three bedroom apartment, but many couples, especially couples who live in the city have to make do with what they have until they can afford otherwise. We chose the apartment we chose knowing that we would have our first and possibly our second child here before we buy a home. We have room.

I keep thinking about how my parents did it. They had their first 3 kids in a one bedroom apartment. So many people of our parent's generation did this. They slept on pull out couches in a living room while their kids shared a bedroom and they bought a 3 bedroom house when they had the money to. The three bedroom house was expanded to a 5 bedroom house when they were able to afford to do it.
Some of us can do better than our parents did and some of us, like myself, won't be able to give HALF as much. BUT that will in no way stop me from having kids. They will always have enough.

I totally agree with you. My mom had my brother in a small apartment for FIVE years before moving to a house.

We're TTC too and have a 2bedroom, but we'd have to do major reorganization b/4 any baby could fit in the 2nd room. Yet like Leslie said so many people make due with what they have.

I agree completely. I do own a house but I agree with every single thing you said.

I am not ttc yet but I have a real interest in this topic b/c I am in a 1 bedroom condo right now and DH says we won't be ready to buy a house til at least 2008. We plan on ttc then but I have really been thinking about having a baby sooner but I keep thinking that it would be a huge mistake in a 1 bedroom.

Right now we are renting a 2 bedroom apartment on the second floor of a house. As much as I want to own a home before having a baby, this just is not going to happen. So, when the time comes, our guest room will become the baby's room. My bedroom is also big enough that I can put a crib in there for a few months.

I think I would be sad too if I couldn't decorate a nursery and have it all ready for when the baby comes home. My bedroom is big enough to have a crib, dresser and changing table though

My DH grew up in a 2 bedroom apt (his first house is our house) and everyone in his family is just fine! In fact the lack of space made for one very close-knit family who are grateful for everything they are blessed with.

Exactly!!!! We lived in a one bedroom apt until I was 6 (so my brother was 9 and parents had the pull out couch in the LR) and I still shared a room with my brother until he went away to college.
My friends who live in Manhattan had their first when they lived in a 1BR and the crib/changing table were in the LR. And the apt was SMALL. They have 2 kids now, live in a larger 2 bedroom but the kids room is pretty tiny but it works.

I currently live in a 2 bedroom apt. on the third floor with no elevator, and we unfortunately will be here for a while, unless we hit the lotto But we will make due with what we have until we can afford something

I live in a one bedroom apt and we have been TTC for some time now. We won't be able to afford a house for a few years, but we are hoping to buy a 2 bedroom condo either before the baby is born or shortly after.
Like everyone else said, you will make do.
If we waited until we could afford a house, who knows when we would have kids. We have been trying for almost 2 years already.

We're in a 3 bedroom, well really 2.5, but they call it a 3.
I wanted to have a house before we TTC but I just couldn't wait. We can have 2 kids in this apartment, but once they get older I'd want a house.

Yes, that would be us! And we have a dog as well!
We're looking for a nice 2-bedroom BUT if we dont come across an apartment that we both really like, we'll reorganize our bedroom and put the crib there...we'll deal with it until we find a bigger place.
