Who held your baby in the hospital?

Did you let everyone and anyone hold your baby when visitors came to see you in the hospital? Did you have a family only policy? No kids policy? I really don't want everyone to be holding my newborn especially any kids that come to visit. How do you politely say no? Or am I just overreacting?

Re: Who held your baby in the hospital?

My feeling is.. no child should be visiting unless it's a sibling.. but with that said. after the adults washed hands.. anyone could hold the baby. no children though.

Who held your baby in the hospital?

This was the ONLY reason I was glad DD was in the NICU. They let MIL, my parents and brother into the room shortly after I delivered and no one but me and DH held her right then. The next day MIL and my parents held her in the NICU but that was it. I wouldn't have wanted every visitor to hold her and I'm not sure how I would have politely declined. Luckily we didn't get many visitors int he hospital, which was fine by me. People didn't come once they realized they couldn't really see the baby anway. Not sure what I'll do this time (hopefully this LO doesn't go to the NICU too!)

ditto.....i made it pretty much known to the family that the adults were welcome at the hospital and to come by the house when we got home but that no kids were allowed....i got a few comments but it didn't bother me....my kids and their well being is more important to me than anyone's possible hurt feelings

No kids came, but any adult who came to the hospital was allowed to hold him as long as they washed their hands. My parents/in laws/grandparents/friends- I didn't care. Anybody who didn't make it to the hospital came over the week I came home and they were allowed to hold him too.

Re: Who held your baby in the hospital?

Everyone who came to visit was either family or our closer friends so we let everyone hold both girls. The only child who came to the hospital was my older dd and she had no interest in holding the baby. I'm really relaxed with this type of stuff but I know it's stressful for others. You should only do what your comfortable with.

only my kids were the only kids to come...so they held my DD...after that only close family and friends came so they were all allowed to hold her as long as they washed their hands first! I didnt have a problem with that!

As long as they weren't sick and they washed their hands then they could hold the baby.

We have lots of nieces and nephews visit, but they didn't hold the baby. They just looked at him in the bassinet or when an adult held him.

I loosened up with my third, but I still didn't want kids to visit the hospital (except my own). My niece was upset, but she got over it.

The hospital where I delivered didn't allow kids under 14 unless they were siblings so I didn't have the kid issue. I let adults hold him after washing hands.

Re: Who held your baby in the hospital?

My and DH parents and DH aunt and uncle .
I was happy that during regular visiting hours, baby is in nursery so it was a non issue, but I don't think I would be letting others ppl hold them

Re: Who held your baby in the hospital?

Ugh almost everyone with the exception of our friends. The first night, we had 30+ people there at once which was just too many for me, so I decided to put the baby in the nursery. As for kids, I don't think anyone should bring them. There's just really no need. When my sister had her daughter, her husband's sisrer broighter her 4 year old that just came straight from the dr with a case of coxackie. My sister flipped out and basically threw them out. Some people really have no clue.

Who held your baby in the hospital?

I had no issue with anyone holding either of my kids. The hospital I delivered at had a no child under the age of 18 policy unless it was a sibling.

Re: Who held your baby in the hospital?

I am in minority, but only my DH and I held DS. He was in NICU and even grandparents couldn't hold him ( it was our choice).

Who held your baby in the hospital?

I don't think we had any kids visit other than DD who was 3 at the time. She held him for a few seconds.

Anyone else who came to visit - family and friends, were more than welcome to hold him.

Re: Who held your baby in the hospital?

Both times I had my children, it was only DH, my mom and dad, my mil and fil. This time, my DD came on the last day to meet DS and she held him for like 30 sec.

I never have a ton of visitors at the hospital....a few days later my closest friends came over to see him and held him for a few minutes.

Just make sure visitors use purell and check if they are coughing or sick.

Re: Who held your baby in the hospital?

Everyone. I am really laid back though. In fact like 10 people held both my boys about 15 min after they were born.

You should do what you are comfortable with. Your baby, your rules. If you don't want to hurt peoples feelings, tell your nurse. They are really helpful about that stuff. They have no problem telling your family and friends that the baby is off limits.

Who held your baby in the hospital?

Ds was in the nicu.... they took him pretty quick after delivery, dh and I each got 2 minutes to hold him first.....

When parents/grandparents came back later that day the nicu allowed us to take 1 parent at a time with us to the incubator that they looked inside at.......

I guess its lucky that this time around I won't have to deal with my family visiting because at #1's christening 3months old my4yo nephew sneezed right in the face :(
