Re: Who else is getting concerned with what bank your money is in?

If your money is in an FDIC insured bank account and you have under 100k, your money is fine

if over 100k, then you should have spread them out to under 100 between different banks

Who's waiting in line for their money?

Re: Who else is getting concerned with what bank your money is in?

Why would you do that? No bank is going to just shut their doors and all your money is FDIC insured. Your bank is more likely to be purchased then to be shut down completely.

Not concerned in the slightest. I don't have 100K sitting in any one bank.

Re: Who else is getting concerned with what bank your money is in?

As long as it's FDIC insured you really have nothing to worry about.

Re: Who else is getting concerned with what bank your money is in?

I'm not worried at all....

Its "fears" like this that started the great depression. Everyone took all their money out of the banks and stored it under their mattresses. Thats why we are FDIC insured today.

Re: Who else is getting concerned with what bank your money is in?

perhaps you read the paper today which had a bunch of info on banks that "investors" are staying away from b/c the government would be less likely to "bail them out" if need be (i.e. banks that are only regional, not nationwide). People who have their money in those banks are completely fine up to 100K, its investors who are being more skittish on who they invest in, this has no bearing on whether you will personally lose money unless you have stock in any of these banks having financial issues.

No. First of all, don't have that much money! Chat Icon

Second of all, if Chase goes under, we are ALL up a creek without a paddle.

Lastly, NFB is gone...it was just taken over by a new company. Things like that happen all the time. Usually, the stock is tangible goods. In these cases, the stock is just a number. Doesn't make a difference.

dont panic if a bank goes under your $ will not go with it b/c its FDIC insured and like OP said it is only relevant if you are an investor. not a good time to buy stocks in financial institutions right now.

I think it is definitely a valid concern if you have over $100,000 in any one bank. It is insured UP TO $100,000.

Since it's a person's aggregate deposits, and their not individual accounts, that are insured, any amounts over $100,000 deposited at any one bank are not covered.

This is not a crazy or irrational fear if you have over $100,000 in any of the at risk banks.

ALL your money isn't insured--it's insured up to $100,00. I don't have to worry Chat Icon , but some might.

I can copy and paste too.
If a depositor's accounts at one FDIC-insured bank or savings association total $100,000 or less, the deposits are fully insured. A depositor can have more than $100,000 at one insured bank or savings association and still be fully insured provided the accounts meet certain requirements. In addition, federal law provides for insurance coverage of up to $250,000 for certain retirement accounts.
