Thats a parody twitter account, its not true. Unbelievable that it was reported on the news. Just another example of news outlets trying to be the first to break a story without doing any fact checking first.

This just creeps me out as normally things don't. I feel like someone is maybe testing to see how the security is or isn't. I just don't understand how no one saw someone up there at all?? Day or not there are always people out in the city

I don't think it means surrender. I think it means peace. It doesn't creep me out. I am taking it as a lovely sign to all. I assume inspired by the plane and the conflict in the Middle East.

This was very planned out. I saw a press conference that said a group of approx. 5 people were seen about 3am walking on the bridge. AT approx. 3:20 the lights on Brooklyn side (I believe) flickered and went out. At approx. 3:40 lights flickered and went out on Manhattan side. Construction workers noticed the changed flags at approx. 5:30am. The security gates were still locked and aluminum pans were zip tied on the lights to make them dark. They are reviewing videos from the bridge. This is down right scary.

this whole thing is scary to me, whether it was to show peace, an artist making a statement or someone sending a message the fact is someone or some group was able to get to the top of the brooklyn bridge in two different spots and disrespect our flag, where is the security, whether intended for good or bad it shows a message right now that anyone could do this, and that to me is scary
eta it also really bothers me that our flag was disrespected, if meant for peace then just put up a white flag, dont ruin our flag

ITA! The fact that white was painted over the American flag, IMO, is a message that someone thinks America is weak/should surrender (to what/whom Idk)...this could be implying any number of issues in the country or the world. But I absolutely think it was meant as an insult.
ETA: and the fact that they were able to pull it off further proves their point if showing our weakness was their intention.

This is inexcusable. This is supposed to be one of the most guarded landmarks. How guarded could it be if someone was able to get on top of the bridge and do that. As far as im concerned, if someone can get away with that they can get away with anything. Its sad to say, but you truly are not safe anywhere.
Now as far as what it means......i dont know. I do think if you paint over an american flag, you can have much respect for the country.

I can't imagine that someone/numerous people could get up there and have time to paint over our flag and not be seen! That had to take at least a few minutes! That is very scary.

No, it was not someone who worked there. My husband actually works on the bridge at night (and was last night) but currently they are working under the bridge. He heard it like everyone else, from the news. There is not private security, just NYPD stationed at each end of the bridge. Not the top of the line security the media keeps talking about.
I also want to add, there is no check points for workers on the bridge. He does not have to show ID like you do at Port Authority construction sites (i.e. World Trade Center).
