Which do you use.....

I wanted to know all of the pros and cons to all of the different methods of increasing your chances......I am currently on CD 3 and want to try something different this month but so confused with the different options....

for the last couple of months I have been checking CM and BDing during most fertile week according to mymonthlycycle.com and babycenter.com....and since I have been having an avergage of 36CD based on the last 10 months and 41CD based on the last 4 months...I have been bding during the 10 days that they perdicted I would be ovulating. AND it hasn't worked.

I am currently reading TCOYF but I'm just in the beginning.

Any thoughts are welcomed.

Re: Which do you use.....

last month we BD during the most fertile week - but I started with the philosophy that we should only do it every other day. We BD'd on a monday night and i am fairly certain that i ovulated wednesday at around 10 or 11am. we didnt BD again until that night at around 11pm so I feel like i missed my window of opportunity. This month, we are going to do it as much as we can during the fertile month and i think i am going to get an the digital OPKs that were recommended on the thread I posted a few minutes ago.

Re: Which do you use.....

DH and I went with my basic CM observations and O pains the first month trying and it worked, but ended in a m/c. Since I wasn't successful the following 2 months, I also began using OPKs as my OB/GYN initially suggested. Since that didn't work twice, I've now added charting my temps!

Re: Which do you use.....

When we first started TTC, we used the "hope for the best" method. We then went to BD every other day during what "I" thought was fertile period. Then we went the OPK route. Because we have been unsuccessful, I started temping this month so I have something to report to MD if it gets to that point.

Can I start temping tomorrow morning on CD 4?
Let me see if I have this right...
I check my temp every morning at the same time and when the temp is starts rising and I see CM I am going to ovulate? Or did I ovulate already?

OPK and BD before and after ovulation.

OPK tells me that I am about to ovulate or if I ovulated already?

Yes, you can start temping on CD4. Just make a note that CD4 = day 1 of temping. Temp rise is post-O. OPKs give you 12-36 hour advance notice.

Basically, temping helps to confirm that you did in fact O, since some women do not but still get something that resembles a . If used with OPK you can see if the surge that registers with the OPK matches the temp rise. You should get surge on OPK first, then the following day, or the day after get temp spike.

I just bought the CVS brand. $10 measures out two decimal places, and has a memory function.

Re: Which do you use.....

We BD'd every other day starting at day 10 through day 20. I only used a digital OPK (Clearblue Easy) as a guide but not as a determinant of when to have sex. We were going to do it the same days anyway.

I have not gotten PG yet, but have had internal exams, a sonogram and blood work that indicate I am ovulating. My periods are regular (between 28 and 30 days). I have had 2 artifical inseminations at which my doctor commented on my CM and that its consistency was ideal for conception. I will not chart and temp. I have not been instructed to. For me it would turn into something to obsess over and TTC in and of itself has already done that.

But guess what, I am not PG. Even under the optimal conditions, my chances for conception at my age are only 10% with each cycle. It is going to take some time. I keep telling myself that and it isnt easy.

I feel exactly the same way.....but my cycles are now 41 days after 10 months off the pill( I was on them for 10 years) and I'm getting worried. As much as I didn't want to make this an obsession (because I will obsess) I want to know what's going on with my body....my plan is to do either chart, check temp, use an OPK or maybe all of the above until May so that I can have something to show the doctor when I go in the end of May beginning of June which will be over 1 year of TTC

Then by all means do what you feel is best. The more information you have for your doctor, the easier it will be for them to treat you. I was told that the amount of time I was on the pill would have no bearing on my ability to conceive. I am fortunate in that my period was regulated rather quickly after going off the pill and I was on it for 15 years.

So physiologically I am fine. So is DH. There is no "treatment" for me as there has not been a diagnosis to treat. We feel it is a question of timing. The inseminations were done to move things along. We will be doing that for two more cycles before we move on to a more invasive procedure. At this point I have to be patient - even my doctor is telling me to relax. I have to find something to keep TTC off my mind and then perhaps my body and mind will be in synch to make this happen.

i charted for a few cycles until i was sure that i ovulated around the same time every month. then we used just OPKs and BD every day or every other day around ovulation time.

the month we got pregnant we BDd every other day starting at day 6 until day 16 of my cycle. + OPK on day 15; i'm pretty sure i Od day 16 or 17.

Thank you for sharing your experience ...I going to try charting this month and see how it goes...I really don't want to get myself all stressed out. But I at least want to say I tried.

The main reason I decided to temp was to have info to give the MD. The second reason was to see if I got the temp spike following a + OPK to actually confirm O after being told that a + OPK doesn't = O.

As per TCOYF it is never to late to start. Some website I read that said to start on CD5 (I forgot which one). I guess either way, just take note that you started on a day other than CD1.

You need 3 consecutive hours of sleep to take temp.
