Which dessert would you prefer?
So I was pretty sure I was going to make S'Mores cupcakes for NYE at my MIL's house. I just got a kitchen torch for Christmas and I'm dying to toast some stuff. But then shapla79 posted that delicious Nutella and Coconut holiday cake! Now I'm stumped. I *might* do both, but if I can only do one- which would you prefer? I did make the Nutella tart for Thanksgiving and everyone loved it, so I'm not sure if I should go in the same direction. S'Mores are a safe bet because who doesn't love s'mores?! Help me!

Re: Which dessert would you prefer?
I'd say the S'mores cupcakes, although both sound amazing!
Is it a sit down dinner or more of cocktails, appetizers, etc.? Cupcakes would def be easier to eat if people are standing/walking around.

Re: Which dessert would you prefer?
Nutella is my favorite thing ever but i am not really a fan of coconut so I chose the s'mores cupcakes. I am sure either one will be a bit hit though!

I'm not a huge coconut fan either, but DH's family definitely is- especially DH and MIL. They'll fight each other for the last Almond Joy.
Hmmm it's a sit down dinner, but more people come by after dinner for drinks and to watch the ball drop.

Re: Which dessert would you prefer?
You can't go wrong with either, and I can understand the need to torch! The first thing I did with mine was s'mores cupcakes LOL
If you decide to go with the nutella cake, you can always swap out the coconut layer with a vanilla layer and replace the toasted flakes with toasted nuts. Anything with nutella is good! It's more about the way the strawberry flower looks I think. I won't be offended if you go with the cupcakes. Those are yummy too!

You might be the one who posted the S'mores cupcake recipe way back when! I'm just so excited to use that damn torch! So silly. But I MUST try the nutella whipped cream. I think I might just do regular chocolate cupcakes with the nutella whipped cream on top along with the s'mores! Who doesn't love a cupcake?!

Re: Which dessert would you prefer?
Personally, I am a big fan of cupcakes. I think more people should serve cupcakes outside of children's birthday parties, so I go with the smore cupcakes.
Both sound awesome, though.

I was thinking that, too! It's a big group, so I'm probably going to go with the cupcakes. I'll just have to make the cake another day and eat it all myself. ::Sigh::

Of course!! It's from Martha Stewart's website!
Link.
Ingredients
2 1/4 cups plus 2 tablespoons sugar 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (not Dutch-processed) 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 2 large eggs 1 cup whole milk 1/2 cup vegetable oil 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 1 cup boiling water 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs (from about 20 squares) 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted 9 ounces bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped Marshmallow Frosting
Directions
1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 standard muffin tins with cupcake liners; set aside.
2.Sift 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together into the bowl of an electric mixer. Using the paddle attachment, mix ingredients together on low speed.
3.In a large bowl, mix together eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Add to flour mixture and beat on medium speed for 30 seconds. Scrape down sides of bowl and continue mixing on medium speed for 2 minutes. Add boiling water and stir to combine; set cake batter aside.
4.Place graham cracker crumbs, remaining 1/4 cup sugar, and melted butter in a large bowl; stir until well combined.
5.Place 1 tablespoon graham cracker mixture into the bottom of each prepared muffin cup. Use the bottom of a small glass to pack crumbs into the bottom of each cupcake liner. Reserve remaining graham cracker mixture for topping.
6.Place 2 teaspoons chocolate in each muffin cup. Transfer muffin tins to oven and bake until the edges of the graham cracker mixture is golden, about 5 minutes. Remove from oven and fill each muffin cup three-quarters full with cake batter. Sprinkle each with remaining chocolate and graham cracker mixture. Return to oven and bake, rotating pans halfway through baking, until tops are firm and a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean, 18 to 20 minutes. Transfer muffin tins to a wire rack and let cupcakes cool in pan for 10 minutes. Remove cupcakes from pan and let cool completely.
7.Transfer frosting to a large pastry bag fitted with a large plain round or French tip (such as Ateco #867 or Ateco #809). Pipe frosting in a spiral motion on each cupcake. Transfer cupcakes to a baking sheet. Using a kitchen torch, lightly brown the frosting, taking care not to burn the cupcake liners. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container, up to 2 days.
I think I'm going to make some s'mores cupcakes and some devil's food cupcakes with nutella whipped cream! I just need my nutella fix! Thanks for the votes everyone!
