Which bath wash/shampoo for newborns?

Just wondering what everyone used for their brand of body wash and shampoo for the newborn age. We had gotten all the johnson and johnson stuff at the shower, but I wasn't sure if it was the best to use.

I loooooove the smell of Baby Magic! That's my favorite one to use, although I will sometimes use the Johnsons.

Re: Which bath wash/shampoo for newborns?

someone gave me the CVS baby bath and the CVS baby wash at my shower. i've been using both and they've been fine so i am sure the johnson's is even better.

I used J&J calming bedtime shampoo/wash and lotion, then switched to Aveeno.

Though scented products smell nice, thos frangrances are absorbed by your newborns skin and the effects are really unknown. I would stick with organic or at least unsacented products. California Baby is always highly rated

The hospital I delivered at told us to use the old fashioned Dove bar soap.

We used that for a while and switched to Aveeno b/c it is easier

Re: Which bath wash/shampoo for newborns?

We were told last week at our childbirth prep class to only use Dove in the beginning as baby's skin is delicate. She said you can switch to other stuff like J&J later.

Us too. We switch back and forth between Dove Sensitive Fragrance Free bar soap and Aveeno Unscented Creamy Wash. Whatever we have in the house.

I've also heard that soaps/lotions scented with lavendar and tree oils may cause gynecomastia (abnormal breast growth) in boys.

DO you mean Dial or Dove? Dial is antibacterial.

I too have been using a Dove White Unscented bar of "soap" since day one. I find it cleans the best, and is fragrance and dye free. Baby411 (written by a ped) recommended this and I went by that. I find some of the baby washes don't lather up enough to feel they are removing some baby "crud". lol

Re: Which bath wash/shampoo for newborns?

I use J&J baby wash and DD has no issues with it. I think it will depend on your child's skin though and if she is sensitive to it or not.

Re: Which bath wash/shampoo for newborns?

Ds had some cradle cap and we switched to Aveeno and scrubbed his scalp with a washcloth. Cleared up in about a week and never came back. So I like Aveeno.

Dove, J&J and Aveeno both irritated DD in the beginning.

Re: Which bath wash/shampoo for newborns?

I use J&J Body Wash (pink bottle like the lotion) and their shampoo. I also use the pink J&J lotion. I asked our ped what to use and this is what he suggested. However, I use Califormia Baby lotion on her face b/c when I used the pink J&J she broke out a bit. I also add a capful of Burt's Bees bath oil to her bath.

I am afraid of using regular soap and/or shampoo on her face/head because it is not tear free.

Also, I was told not to use the lavender scented stuff until she is 6 months old.
