Cold peanut butter is an entirely different kettle of fish. DH insists on putting my damn PB in the fridge and I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaate it.

Re: Where do you keep your ketchup?
I keep it in the fridge - mostly because I swore it says to keep refrigerated - but I looked on their site and this is what they say:
Q: Do I need to refrigerate Ketchup? A: Because of its natural acidity, Heinz® Ketchup is shelf-stable. However, its stability after opening can be affected by storage conditions. We recommend that this product, like any processed food, be refrigerated after opening. Refrigeration will maintain the best product quality after opening.

Fridge, won't it spoil if not refrigerated?
Nope. It's high in acid which keeps it from going bad. It doesn't say refrigerate after opening on the label.
Yup, doesn't say to keep it refrigerated so we don't. I hated cold ketchup on my hot food!

Re: Where do you keep your ketchup?
THis was a big issue when we got married.
I won - ketchup in the fridge.
And we use organic ketchup! Flame away - no heinz in this house.
PS - natural peanut butter HAS to be in the fridge. Otherwise, I'd agree, I'm not a huge fan of cold peanut butter, but now that we are eating almost all organic, the fridge it is.

Nope. It's high in acid which keeps it from going bad. It doesn't say refrigerate after opening on the label. Oh, and I like Hunts more. So I'm waaaay in the ketchup minority, I know.
I eat warm Hunts ketchup.
(though I get a bottle of Heinz for BBQs. I know better than to forcefeed people Hunts)
Stilltasty says if opened, only should stay in pantry one month. If opened and in fridge, 6 mths.
http://www.stilltasty.com/fooditems/index/17472
I've heard that before, but I've yet to get sick from it and it definitely stays in the pantry for more than a month.
It's like any other food...if it starts to look or smell weird, chuck it.
We always kept ours in the fridge growing up. Then when I would see the ketchup sitting out in diners, I would be like , how is that not bad? Should I eat that since it's been sitting out? Sure enough, according to still tasty, I guess if it moves fast enough (such as in a diner) there is no issue. But I guess if you haven't gotten sick, then it's likely ok for longer than 1 mth in the pantry.
I too hate cold ketchup though, hate it being in the fridge but won't convert.

Old habits die hard.
Get those little dipping cups and put the ketchup in them as you start to cook...it'll get to room temp by the time your food is ready :) That's what I do when I visit my parents...they keep it in the fridge.

Re: Where do you keep your ketchup?
I put mines in the fridge once it's open. Other than that it stays in the cupboard until I'm ready to use it.

In the pantry.
I grew up always having the ketchup in the pantry. Let me tell you, bottles of ketchup usually lasted about a year in my house, and we never saw a bottle go bad!
