I don't know Suffolk well, but would look for areas that have independant movie theaters (the kind that show small release artsy movies), community theater, active library programs, etc.
Try looking on meetup.com for groups that interest you & see where they generally seem to be.

I'm sorry you are being attacked. I understand what you want. I think you may be happier in the towns that have a village or downtown area that also value education. A small-ish town with a good library and motivated students would probably also carry through to the community.

Wow, I cant believe you just seriously asked that. i grow up in a poor neighborhood but still went to college, graduated and I am a professional. I consider myself to be a very intelligent person.

Maybe look by Stony Brook University. There are a lot of professors out there and lots of activities/lectures/talks at the University.

You're not going to find an area like Boston on LI. I'd stick with Boston if I were you.
Additionally, many of the highly intelligent, "intellectual type" people I know don't actually have much money.

I don't think that you are going to find a town full of smart people, intellectuals, or whatever else you may call them...
If you want to surround yourself with intelligent conversation, take a graduate level course at a college, join a book club, find a hobby and learn something new, visit historical sites, etc.
I also do not think that money implies intelligence at all.

In every town, you'l find every level of intelligence. If you're looking for like-minded individuals, it's the extracurricular activities that will let you there not the location.

I think you mean somewhere with culture and a sense of community? I'd check out Northport Village or Huntington Village and places like that. They usually have a main street downtown area
