Where are my C25k ladies?

Is anyone else DYING on week 3?

Today is going to be W3D3 and I honestly don't know if I can move onto week 4. I'm tired just LOOKING at the intervals for that!

I can BARELY make it through the 3 minute running intervals during Week 3.... it is SO hard for me!

Should I keep going forward? Repeat a week? I'm so unsure of what to do. Repeating a week seems like failure to me Chat Icon

I HAAAAAAAAATE you C25k!!!!!!! I really hate it. I hate running! Wish there was an easier, less boring, more fun way! Chat Icon

ETA:

Is anyone else doing this on the treadmill? If so, what are your walking and running speeds?

I've been doing 3.5 walks and 5.5 runs.

Re: Where are my C25k ladies?

Im DYING on week 3. My co-worker is doing it with me also, she is a day behind me, but also in week 3 and shes DYING too.

Im making it OK through the first long interval, the second one though, seriously, I could die Chat Icon

Im doing it though, pushing through it and I havent died, so even though its hard as hell, I must be OK right?

Im not doing it on a treadmill, I would HATE it if I did and never stick with it. Ive been running outside and LOVE it. For running, Im doing a fast jog, and for walking, Im just walking at a regular pace. Not powerwalking bc I need all of those minutes I can get to bring my heart rate back down and catch my breath.

I actually found that day 2 of week 3 was harder than day 1. Today Im going to do day 3 and see how it goes. I may repeat this week, or maybe not repeat but get in an extra day or two of it this week, before week 4 starts.

oh, so it looks like we are right on track with one another! the only reason that I am doing it on the treadmill is so that I can keep track of my speed and because the area we live in is SO hilly... I think it would be way to hard outside!

Today is going to be week 3 day 3 for me also, and I'm dreading it and dreading week 4 even more!

If it's too much, try going a little bit slower. The goal right now is to work on your endurance, not your speed. You can worry about your pace later. Do you have a heart rate monitor or one on the treadmill that you use? I'd use my HR to determine how fast to go. It does get easier! Before you know it you'll be amazed at how long you can run!

I'm done with C25K but thought I could help. I usually run on a treadmill. I walk at 3.5 and run at 5.3
If you feel too tired you can repeat a week but you may want to try week 4 and see how you do. I found I surprised myself at what I could do sometimes!

Feeling like you're dying is a good thing! Chat Icon Really it is though... it means your body will become more fit and as the weeks go on, you'll see a huge improvement in your endurance, and then later on, your speed.

That's a great idea - thank you! I think I might try to do that on Saturday when I start Week 4.

I don't have a HR monitor.... do you have one that you recommend??

You're so right!

My DH said something similar last night because I said I felt like I wasn't really making progress because every week is so hard for me... but he said "Do you think you could do Week 1 with no problem?" and I said YES! And he said well then that's progress right there!

Re: Where are my C25k ladies?

Just wanted to add that I finished WEEK THREE of the c25k...

For the third day of W3, I did it like this:

5 min warmup walk @ 3.5
1.5 minute jog @ 5.5
1.5 minute walk @ 3.5
3 minute jog @ 5.5
1.5 minute walk @ 3.5
3 minute jog @ 5.5
3 minute walk @ 3.5
5 minute walk @ 3.5

So basically I just switched around the last two jogs...

I felt like I could do the 2nd 3 minute jog and I wanted it to be OVERWITH! Do you think that's okay?

Should I move onto week 4??? It would mean REALLY pushing myself and maybe lowering my speed...

Really???

I thought I was going too slow! I think I read somewhere that you're supposed to be at 6.0 for the runs! That's crazy to me... I once accidentally went to 5.8 and I was dying!

Okay I just figured this out.

The goal of C25k is that in the final week, you are jogging for 30 minutes (approximately 3 miles).

So for my treadmill people... that's a 10 minute mile which means you should be jogging at a speed of 6.0.

Found this great chart here.. that gives you treadmill speeds and your pace per mile equivalents.

So I guess the ultimate goal is running at 6.0.

I'm going to try to figure out the weekly goals also because they are a bit slower I think...

Re: Where are my C25k ladies?

I did the couch to 5K over a year ago and let me tell you when I first started I would do my runs at 5.2 or 5.3. I did my first 5K in 31:50 and I just did another one last week in 28:54. Do not worry about your pace at all. you can work on that later. RIght now just build your endurance. If it is too hard for you do what op said. Lower the speed. Trust me you will be amazed. When I started this I could not run for 2 mins straight and in May I did my first half marathon without stopping once!

Good Luck Ladies and Keep up the Great Work!

I'm going to start Week 4 tomorrow and I might try lowering the speed a bit.

When did you raise the speed again?

As i mentioned in my OP, I have been doing walks at 3.5 and runs at 5.5....

Okay I just figured this out.

So I guess the ultimate goal is running at 6.0.

The ultimate goal is NOT to run at 6.0! The ulitimate goal is to get you to run for 30 minutes straight. That's it! The pace you rrun the 30 minutes is NOT important!

I did the C25K last year and now I can run 5 miles straight. I still can NOT run at 5.0 on the treadmill for a long period of time.... I would be dying.... But the pace is not important. Building up your endurance is what is important right now. 1 yr later I can run 5 miles straight no problem. but I could neverdo it at 6.0 on a treadmill. That is simply too fast for me right now. My pace was about a 12 min mile, now I am averaging a 10:45min/mile pace.

If you really want to complete the program and not burn out, just run at a pace you are comfortable. Running to fast can be counterproductive.

Good Luck!!!

Re: Where are my C25k ladies?

I'm a little behind you, on week 2 day 2, but I'm going slower than you on the treadmill (its just too hot here to do it outside). Like the others said, work on endurance first, then build up speed. And repeating is not failure!!! As long as you are doing it and pushing yourself, you should congratulate yourself!!!!

week 4 = TOTAL FAILURE

I'm so upset with myself.

I took everyone's advice and lowered my running speed, but I still couldn't complete W4D1!

walked 1.5 min @ 4

run - 3 min
walk - 1.5 min
run - 5 min
walk - 2.5 min
run - 3 min
walk - 1.5 min

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon If I counted right you only missed 2.5 minutes of running. That is not that bad! Don't be too hard on yourself.

You could repeat week 3 or you could try slowing down your running throughout the whole workout. It seemed like you did ok when you were running at 5. There is a huge difference between 5 and 5.5 Maybe try running at 5.2 or 5.3 the whole time?
Also, I would walk consistently at 3.5 I wouldn't go any slower.

We all have bad days. I remember when I started C25K there were just some days it was tough. Take a day off and try again on Monday or Tuesday. It will get easier and you can do this!

I will be honest, there were a FEW hard weeks! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

But keep plugging, go slow and you'll be amazed at what your body can do!

Oh, one more thing, don't think you HAVE to do it in 9 weeks. I tweaked it a bit and turned it into a 12 week situation.

Weeks 1-4 were the same.

For week 5, I made day 1 it's own week (3 days of 5/3/5/3/5) then 2 days of the 8/5/8 run then the 20 minute run.

I did the same thing with week 6 (turned it into 2 weeks).

I think I also did an extra week of week 7.

Re: Where are my C25k ladies?

thank you so much for the inspiration ladies!

I'm going to try again today.

I don't know if this makes sense, but running at 5.0 actually seemed HARDER than 5.5 because it seemed just too slow! Maybe because I have long legs? IDK, but it was hard to go so slow... it felt even more strenuous!

Should I try 5.3 or so? And try to do W4D1 again??
