When you eat Chinese food. . .
do you ever eat with chopsticks out of the container like they do in the movies?
DH is obsessed with this and will point it out in every show and movie

When I eat Chinese at home, we usually eat with forks. At restaurants, we use chop sticks. Our local place doesn't send chop sticks with the delivery, and I'm usually too lazy to dig out our nice chop sticks.

This is too funny- I was just recently thinking the same thing.
I'm always craving to eat Chinese food after I see people eating out of the containers in the movie with chopsticks. The funny thing is, I don't even like Chinese food...it just looks "cool" to eat it that way.
I wonder why they have actors eat Chinese food like that...is it to make you crave it? Or do people actually eat it like that?

My chinese place doesn't even use those classic white containers (or what we order doesn't come in those) and they never give chopsticks. I do try to use them in the restaurant though - and I emphasize the word "try".

I do!!! But only after I learned how to use 'em properly while living in Asia! I was really clumsy with them at first but practiced and got better at it. I hosted a client dinner once and the waiter came over to give me a fork and I just looked at him and said "What's that ?"
My clients liked that one

neither does the place we order from...the food usually comes in plastic containers instead, with exception of the white rice.

I have a really bad hand and can't use chopsticks. It's definitely nerve damage. I went to a hand specialist and he told me it was the rarest type of hand injury one could have. If I were a baller, it might be career ending. I actually wrote a whole story about it in a Facebook Note. I always feel so unsophisticated when i have to ask for a fork in a Chinese restaurant while my DH deftly maneuvers his chopsticks. I always feel like the dumb American girl. Sigh. Damn hand injury.

I never understood how people do that because I like to order a bunch of different things and the share them. Plus I like to have it all on the same plate so I can mix my chicken or beef with rice. It would be weird for me to eat everything separate.

This is me too. BUT.. if it's late and I'm eating leftovers out of the fridge on my own - I'll eat straight from the container with chopsticks.

same here and I ALWAYS have to ask for chopsticks (which annoys me)
I usually ask for 2 more than we really need so if I forget to ask or they forget to send them...I always have a spare
eta: and I usually regret eating the food about 20 mins after we're done. The heartburn is tremendous

except-did you ever see the Lost boys-when they are eating the Chinese food from the container and Kiefer Sutherland changes the food to maggots and worms

LMAO! I am your DH bc I point it out in every movie and TV show too. Like the ADA on Law & Order can sit there and eat with chopsticks while he is scarfing down a quick meal and pouring over 800 legal documents.  I find it so pretentious that everyone eats with chopsticks on TV. I'm not saying no one does it IRL but not everyone!! I wish I could remember what show but recently I saw them eating with forks and I cracked my DH up bc I was floored.

yes to chop sticks sometimes but not out of the container.
I usually don't eat the whole container so putting the chopsticks in my mouth and going back to the container is unsanitary. If you have leftovers and go to eat them the next day the bacteria has had time to fester. You can get sick.
If you eat all of it or throw it out then I think that's fine.
I love that though..too bad my germophobia gets in the way.
