When would you consider your DC a late walker?
The doctor said even at 15 months, it wouldnt be a big deal but I walked early and so did my DH. Andrew is still not walking and showing NO interest in it either. He is 13 1/2 months old now.
I am finding it so hard to believe that a kid who can talk so much (he actually uses 3 word sentences like "what is that?" and "I did it!") cannot grasp the concept of walking.
Should I be worried or should I listen to the doctor?

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
I think Dr. don't consider "late" until 18 months.
DS is almost 16 months and still not walking on his own. He will cruise furniture, walking holding out hands but that's it. Since last week we have seen some major steps towards walking. He actually WANTS to walk while holding our hand. He now can raise himself up from a squatting position which I think is a major milestone in getting him to walk.

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
Sounds like your DS is the exact opposite of mine!
Lucas is also 13 months and he started walking at 11 months. But he doesn't really have any words at this point beyond dada and other babble sounds.
Personally, I think that my DS was working on the physical stuff and not paying attention to talking. Maybe your DS was working on his language skills and is not as focused on physical? At least this is what I tell myself!!!
I am sure your DS is fine. If you have brought it up to your ped and you are still concerned, can you have him evaluated? Just to ease your mind?
ETA: IMO, I think 13 months is still early to worry about the walking. But like I said, if you are concerned, you can always get second opinions!

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
I would think 18 months is late as some of the above posters also said.
Don't worry though, DD isn't walking either. She took a few steps, but really isn't showing any interest in it either!

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
I'd say 15-16 months. I wouldn't worry though Diane, as they say, early walkers, late talkers. Michael is walking as of Friday, but he only says a few words...
Let him take his time...better for you! Trust me

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
DD was way more interested in talking rather than walking. She can say a lot of words and also began saying 2 or 3 word phrases by the age of 1.
She walked only holding our hands for sooo long. Finally, at 16 months she decided she wanted to do it herself. Now she is walking, running and standing up all by herself in a short period of time.
I felt the same as u , when is she going to walk! but she got there and eventually ur DS will too. 18 months is the rule to go by for walking, u have plenty of time.

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
LAte walker-15 months...but something to be concerned about-18months.
Just because a baby is a late walker does not nec mean it is cause for concern. But by 18 months I would definately get an eval.
Wow, you ds is very verbal That's great.

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
DS walked at 15 months, 3 weeks, 5 days. I am not kidding you
I googled it when he was about 15 months old and they say the average is 12-15 months. So mentally, I decided I'd call EI if he made it to his 16 month "birthday" and wasn't walking. Well, wouldn't you know it, the little bugger learned to walk TWO days before that!
I totally think he was a late walker, BUT he also walked perfectly when he did, not two or three steps here or there, he just walked ALL over from that point on!
Ohhh and my DS is very verbal too! He started with short sentences at 17 months

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
Anything above 15 months but if the doctor said sooner or later I would go with that.
DD is only 11 months and shes not walking yet and already people are commenting that she's lazy

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
I wouldn't think "late" until probably somewhere around 16 months or later...
DD walked by 11 months, but I consider that "early"
My BFF's DS didn't walk until about 14.5 months...and he was much like your DS...he never really even crawled - he showed no interest at all...one day he stood up and cruised along the furniture and I think it was only like a week later he let go and started walking on his own. My girlfriend is convinced her DS just studied it, watched everyone and then once he had it figured out, just got up and did it!
ets - even though DD walked early, and was babbling early too, she didn't hold her own bottle until 12.5 months!!!! So I really think each one develops differently, and they all catch up to each other at some point!

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
Thanks all! You made me feel better. He does stand very well on his own but he has been doing that for a while. I keep thinking any day now, but as you all said, every baby is different.

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
I would not worry - both my boys were later walkers...one 14 months the other 15 months. And trust me I was worried like you and then one day they both just decided they were going to walk.

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
Ale didn't even start to try until she was 15 months old -- no interest until then. But she's been walking ever since.
I would say at 18 months I would be concerned...

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
i think the norm is 10-16 months. 18 months would be late.
children don't develop on a linear pattern. so your ds is very advanced in lanuage and is a bit later in gross motor skills. he is just spending all his time and energy into learning how to talk and hasn't gotten to focusing on walking yet.
my ds was the opposite, he walked at 10 1/2 months but didn't say his 1st words till 13-15 months.
don't worry he will walk when he is ready.

I hear you either walk first or talk first, they can't be great at everything right?!
I'd consider 15/16mos late for walking.

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
My son was 16 months almost 30lbs when he started walking. Dr. said it was totally normal. I think 18-20 mnths would raise an eyebrow. Until then enjoy the crawling stage, once they start walking its all over!

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
Neither of my kids walked until they were at least 15 months. I didn't consider it late in the scheme of things, so I didn't worry. 18 months is usually the age where you may start to have some concern.

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
My DD didn't walk until she was about 15 month DH and I were also early walkers, But, like your son she was very verbal. They really work on one skill set at a time.
Now, she runs, jumps etc. Try not to worry

Re: When would you consider your DC a late walker?
My cousin's son didnt walk until 17 months - but was an early talker. At 2 and a half he's bilingual (spanish and english) and is honestly, one of the the smartest 2 year olds I've ever seen. . . and he now runs all over the place.

No I dont think there is a problem at all! My daughter is 18 months and has been walking since a couple of days after her first birthday but she barely says anything. Dont worry he will start soon!!
