When was your first trip planned for dc?

We have been away a few times already, but it's where we want to go. Dd is too little to have an opinion.

When was your first trip especially for dc? As in sesame place? Hershey? Disney? Etc etc

When would they actually enjoy it?

Ds is 2 and we still don't do trips for him. I never had a trip for me growing up. Never did amusement parks etc and I never missed it. We were a beach family. That's probably how my son will be

We plan to take DS to an all-inclusive this year, around his first birthday. It will be a nice family trip with our best friends and their son.

We plan on going to Sesame Place this spring or early summer. DS will be 2

Our first weekend away was to Sesame Place. DS was 14.5 months. Our first long family vacation was to Hilton Head, SC when DS was 2. We drove 15 hours with a toddler. Because we're crazy. But in all honesty we had a blast and I would go back in a heartbeat.

We're doing a beach house in the OBX this summer. It's honestly as much for us as for her so I'm not sure that counts. DD will be 20 months old.

Later that same month we will spend a night or two in PA to go to Sesame Place and the Please Touch Museum. That one is definitely for her.

We took DD OB her first trip to Dutch Wonderland this past July when she was 2. We were all miserable! She didn't cooperate one bit and we were ready to come home on the first day.

Then 2 months later, we took her to WY to Yellowstone to visit family and she was so much better! She had her moments, but it was by far a better trip....maybe bc she had family and a normal home to be in? IDK

DS has been on 2 family vacations. Upstate at 8 months and Myrtle Beach at 9 months. Loved them both! We'll be going upstate again (a family resort) with DS (he'll be 20 months) and the new baby (2 months).

Our trips so far haven't really been "kid" trips

We do montauk once or twice a year
We've gone camping
We go to Florida once or twice a year

We will do more kiddie things when the youngest is old enough to remember...maybe 5

This summer we are renting a house in the outer banks

2.5 is a good age.
DC loved Disney & zero entry pools or waveless beaches.
I didn't care for sesame Place.

since DS1 was born we have only done type family trips, we travel alot with BILs family..so when DS1 was

7 months - White Montains, NH (storyland)
18 months - Hershey Park
22 months - Disney
2y3m - Smugglers Notch, VT
2y6m - Day with Thomas PA, and Sesame Place
2y11m - Disney
3y8m - Dutch wonderland, Hershey park (DS2 was a few months old for this trip)
4y5m - Lancaster PA - no amusement parks on this trip, but loved the area, so much to do
5y4m - Disney & Disney Cruise


I think a good age for a kid friendly location is over 2yo. Although DS did love hershey at 18 months and then at 3yo he was going through a phase where he was afraid of every ride that moved! So....
Most of those trips we either went with my nieces and nephews (some are 6yo older than DS1) so we had to cater to different age groups and that of course helped with his enjoyment of hte vacation. But I dont regret going on any of those...DS may not remember them all, but I do and I cherish all those memories.

With that said, it depends on the kid. DS1 was great at DIsney the first time even though he was so little. DS2 went to disney at 24months old and it was a nightmare. He was over simulate, and it led to alot of melt downs. He also got sick on the trip which didnt help!

ETA: Someone mentioned camping, We have gone camping with DS1 since he was 18m. We have a blast but we keep it local, just in case anyone can't make it through the night! lol

DD was 3 1/2 months when we did our annual Jersey Shore house rental.
Then she was 15 months when we went to Aruba and 17 months when we went back to the shore. She was 2 years old going to Cancun and a little over 3 on a Disney Cruise.
She did well with all. I am so glad we picked places we wanted until she was old enough to remember kiddie places. Her first Disney World trip will be in 2 weeks, and she is almost 4 and fully immersed in the princess stage.

We took DS1 to Florida for the first time at 10 months and DS2 was 3 months. But it was as much for us as them because we own a timeshare there. We go as much for ourselves as the kids. We do one park for one day and the rest of the time is at the pool. We always look for kid friendly activities, but that doesn't dictate everything. We took the kids to Newport last winter and took them in the Polar Express and to the arcade. The rest if the time they did things we wanted to do. My sister and I are taking our kids to Atlantic City next month. Not exactly what you would think of as a child's destination, but we had a timeshare that was going to expire. But after a lot of research, there is plenty to keep the kids entertained.

Our family took a trip to Disney when my younger brother was 2 y/o, I was 5 y/o and my older brother was 8 y/o. My parents said my older brother and I loved it and while my younger brother had a good time, he didn't truly get it. My mom said if she had a re-do she would have waited until my younger brother was 3.

With this being said, I just think Disney has too many competing stimuli for a young toddler. I could see a 2y/o enjoying something a little less busy.

We've been on several family vacations.

We went to Lake George when dd was 1. Last year at 2 we took her to an all inclusive resort in Riviera Maya. She went to Sesame Place when she was 2 years, 4 months.

This year we are thinking Disney. She will be 3 in April. We do a vacation every year even though she probably won't remember it anyway. It's more for the parents at this age than anything else. We will repeat trips when she gets older to disney and places like that.

We go to myrtle beach every year, we took DS last year when he was almost 10 months and he enjoyed it.

We took our sons to Day out with Thomas in Lancaster when Aaron turned 2 and Ryan was 6 months.

We go to PA every summer anyway to Lancaster so we started adding in Dutch Wonderful as a stop when Aaron was 2.

We did Disney for the first time when Aaron was 3 and DS #2 was 1.5. We did Aruba last May, the kids were 3 and 1.5. We are headed to Disney again this year, they will be 4 and just shy of 3.

We also did non-kid related trips to Las Vegas (Aaronwas 10 months) and Hawaii (Aaron was 14 months).

We always try to include a kid-related activity even on trips to places like Baltimore.

We waited 6 years to have Aaron after getting married, so we had plenty of time to travel on our own. It's not about us anymore is the way I look at it.

We took DS to cape cod at 10 months, all trips after that were kid centered. He loved cape cod, even tho he was so young. We have been to sesame 3 times, Hersey/ dw twice, Disney land and Disney world, Atlantis, please touch in philly twice, places like that. My oldest turned 5 now, my youngest is 3. We can do beach vacations or European trips when they get older. They can only deal with the beach for an hour or 2 right now. I'll never be interested in camping.

Kids enjoy these trips at any age. My youngest was 16 months at Disney and his happy little face was priceless the entire trip.

I'm sure My kids won't remember, but my DH and I have the BEST memories of our little ones on these trips.


I wanted our next trip to be outer banks or something like that, but I have no clue how to plan a trip like that Disney has boards for planning

I will say, I took DS to AC and I actually had the most miserable time ever. To this day, I have never returned to AC

We have take a few trips with them starting at 10 months.

DS1 10 mos - Curaçao (was a bit difficult bc he wanted to crawl all over the place)
DS1 12 mos - Beaches Turks and Caicos (super easy and fun)
DS1 2yo DS2 12 mos - Beaches Turks and Caicos (best vaca ever)
DS1 2 yo DS2 16 mos - Greece (not terrible but not easy either - time difference killed them the first 4 days)
DS1 2yo (3rd bday there) DS2 19 mos - Disney. Stayed on property so it wasn't terribly tiring. I thought it was great for my 2-3yr old but the little guy wasn't so into it and didn't enjoy as much.

We did Sesame Place for two days when DS was around 18 months. We also did Disney this past December at 2 years 8 months. In hindsight I would have waited til he was a year older, but I want to have another and then I know we won't go anywhere like disney for many years.

This summer id like to do a weekend trip to Land of Make Believe and Maybe back to Sesame if I can get a good deal.

First kid oriented trip: Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster, PA.

After that we went to Sesame in the fall for Halloween and Christmas.
