When to see a RE?
We've been trying to get pregnant since June. I went to my OBGYN and she told me to give it time. Do I go back to her to run tests or should I go to a RE?
I'm 32, never been pregnant.

Re: When to see a RE?
I really don't know what you tell you, I"m sorry. Do you temp or use OPK's?
I went against my ob andwent to the RE earlier then she wanted me to, but I'm older too.
You have to do what you feel is best.

Re: When to see a RE?
First, are you sure that you are ovulating? I used OPKs, CBEFM, and charting/temping which all led me to believe that I was in fact ovulating. Then are you making sure that you are timing your intercourse in the most ideal way?
They say its 6 months for someone over 35, 1 year for someone under 35.
After 6 months, I started questioning just as you are - saw my ob/gyn and they also told me to wait.
I went back at 9 months and they did an SA.
After 12 months, they did CD 3 bloodwork and ordered an HSG. After all of those came back normal, they referred me to an RE.
I know that for my insurance, you could not see an RE unless you had been trying for 1 year (for someone under 35) and you needed a referral.
I don't think it would hurt to at least talk to the ob/gyn again and see if they will start the testing...
The easiest and least invasive first step is for Dh to have an SA done...

Re: When to see a RE?
It depends on if you need a referral or not. Since you are under 35, if you need a referral you will have to wait 1 year before you can see an RE- unless you have a known issue such as PCOS.
Also- you should have your ob/gyn do CD3 and CD21 testing (blood tests) and a semen analysis for your DH.
I think those are the preliminary tests. If those are all normal, you could give it more time or go to an RE for more in- depth testing. (Sonos, HSG, etc)

Re: When to see a RE?
I've also been trying since June but I don't ovulate normally, and never had so I knew there was an underlying issue and it would take me a long time to get pregnant on my own. So, instead of continuing to go to a gyno who was not concerned, I decided to go to an RE this month. They will run more tests and will be more proactive to get you pregnant. However, my insurance did not require a referral so it was up to me when I wanted to move on to an RE.

Re: When to see a RE?
I was seeing my ob/gyn for 6 months before he sent me to an RE... I was 29 at the time (I am 30 now) and the ob/gyn just didn't know what more he could do for me so he decided to send me further. The RE has been very thorough and has tested everything so I am glad that I only waited 6 months before starting with an RE. I have been seeing an RE for almost 9 months!

Re: When to see a RE?
I am 28 and after I had been TTC for about 7 months (using OPKs, etc.), I had an appointment with my ob-gyn and she suggested that I start fertility testing. I had the initial tests done at my ob-gyn and then went to an RE.
I have been going to an RE since July and while I am still not PG yet, I am very happy that I did not wait to go. I had a "gut" feeling that something was not right even though there was nothing to make me think I was having fertility problems.
Good luck!!!

Re: When to see a RE?
I was your age when I started TTC and only waited 6 months before seeing a RE. My OB wanted me to wait a year but I was concerned and needed answers. I have no regrets about going to the RE because I eventually needed IVF to get pregnant. Best of luck and make whatever decision feels right for you.
