When people rub your belly...
how do you feel about it?
File me under the "I am not a freaking genie, DO NOT rub my stomach!!" category! {Or in the case of close friends or family who ask politely and WAIT for a response, I would consider letting them touch.}
I just cannot understand why people reach out and touch you like your stomach is a gosh darn puppy or something! I would never consider doing this to someone!! I just reached 12 weeks and I suppose I'm starting to get a small pooch (regardless of the fact that I'm still in my regular pants, no belly band yet), but nonetheless, there's really nothing there for people to be touching. It makes me crazy uncomfortable, pregnant or not.
So here's my story from a wedding I went to this weekend: DH's mom clearly did not abide by the "please do not tell anyone our news" memo, as she told the mother of the groom that we were expecting. She did NOT give us the heads up on this fact. DH and I were engaged in a conversation during happy hour with a couple I had only met one other time when all of the sudden, the woman approaches us...
She slinks up beside me and starts rubbing my stomach and says, "Do you have anything to tell me?" Now I could tell DH started to breaking into a sweat instantly and the couple we were with were confused and looked embarrassed (I was MORTIFIED), but instinctively, my next move was to turn to her, start rubbing HER stomach and say with a completely straight face, "No.... do you have anything to tell ME?"
She gave me the stink eye and walked away shortly after and even though I felt like a Queen B****, it felt AMAZING to put her in her place. DH was totally behind me that she was out of line. This is someone I've met twice in my life. Why she considered that to be appropriate, I have no idea. But hopefully she thinks twice about rubbing someone's stomach/calling someone out in front of others!! ROARRR

So far everyone has asked before touching or I have offered. No one has just rubbed it without warning.
I think I'm of the who cares bandwagon. I am loving my pregnant body and enjoying this time.

I've never had anyone touch my belly without asking permission. My SIL loves to touch my stomach which is fine b/c she's family. I don't think I give off the "please touch me" vibe.

I have only had people do that to me when I have had a big pregnant belly. I don't mind at all. Mostly only my family and friends do it. I don't usually do it to other people because I get shy lol but don't mind it being done to me.

awwwww this made me smile!!! it makes me feel so cold and nasty but i can't help but recoil when people reach out! not that it's happened so many times, but still...
maybe when it's a little bigger and there's something cute to touch i'll feel differently. i'm glad to know that so many people are comfortable with it - since clearly some people aren't shy about just reaching over to cop a feel

Based on your story I would say hells no! Not showing yet, half a stranger, I don't think so! but for me I'm 39 weeks and it's different. If a friend or family member touches its fine, I actually like it.... but I did have one crazy lady molest my belly and I was completely uncomfortable!!! It took every ounce of me not to punch her... but then again that's a stranger

I hate when people touch my belly when there isn't anything to touch. My best friend even did it and I was uncomfortable! It's like hey that's not baby it's just chub right now, thanks! When my belly is big I still feel a little uncomfortable when people touch but don't mind as much. I think I just don't like to be touched in general so it's weird when all of a sudden everyone wants to rub your belly!

This!!! If I wasn't showing and I didn't know the person and they just touched it without pulling me aside and asking quietly I would be FURIOUS! But in the beginning everyone asked if they could. We just went to a communion for DH's family and I'm 34.5 weeks. Everyone was rubbing my stomach. Doesn't bother me at all and I think it's like a hug that they are giving our son. I used to touch SIL's belly all the time so she and I have full conversations with her hands on my stomach.
As long as no one touches it after he comes out than I'm ok with it. HAHA!

I don't let strangers come up to me and rub my belly..I think that is so creepy!!! But I don't mind family and friends. My mom actually puts her ear up to my stomach..lol

So far no one has just rubbed my belly with out asking but I'm only 13 weeks and I'm not really showing yet.
I don't think I'll mind if close family and friends do it but I'll definitely find it a bit intrusive if someone I hardly know comes up to touch me.

helllll to the no. My last pregnancy, I was in starbucks and the barista came around the counter and did it, I was so creeped out.
I also own a shirt from cafe press- yes, you can rub my belly, if I can punch you in the face.

It skeeved me so bad.
Come to think of it, nobody really tried to- I think I gave off a "STAY THE EFF AWAY" vibe.

I did have one person touch my tummy without asking and it made me CRAZYYYY but that's because I didn't like the person
Other than that rub away. I loved being prego with Tiny Tot. I'm sure I won't feel any differnt this time around.

I am not a genie!!! I dont even like when people ask! Give me some space! haha. I have a woman at work that keeps commenting on my belly and touching it- like REALLY go away! When my husband does it though I love it. It's cute- he always rubs it and asks "How's baby doing?"

When I first got PG everyone warned me that ppl would do this. To me, I thought, I don't mind if they do, it's OK. And I waited for it to start happening. Five and a half months later, nothing.
I have had people comment when we talk about me being pregnant - no one has tried to actually touch it. I even offered once, because (to me) the person looked like they were gesturing to do so, but I thought, maybe they don't want to offend me? So, I said Oh, it's ok! You can touch it if you want to! and they gave a look like NO WAY that was the last thing I was thinking. So, I guess I read that one wrong.
I think ppl are disgusted by me
No, not really, but I'm definitely NOT getting the "norm" that everyone told me to expect... NOT EVEN CLOSE. More often than not, I get the   and freaked out, I don't want to come near you, you pregnant infected freak look.  It's awesome.
