I've left DD in the car to run back into the house (car is in the driveway) or to return a book to the library book drop (I pull up right next to it)

I voted other actually because yes, I do leave him in the car when I drop books off at the library but I dont go into the building, just use the outdoor boxes. And when I leave him for more than a minute is when we are in our own driveway after grocery shopping and I leave him in the car seat while I carry all the bags into the house. It just keeps him in one place while I am running back and forth.

Re: When is ok (if ever) to leave your kids in the car?

I have left Cai in the car - with either AC on, or with windows open to run into the house to get something. I have also done this if I was at an ATM but it wasn't drive through - but the ATM was right near the curb and the car was right there.

My personal feeling is: Anything 3 mins and under, with the car in full view (with the exception of running into the house), and sufficient cool air for the child. I am even OK with a 7-11 or a Starbucks run if there is no line, and it follows the above - 3 mins or under, car in full view, sufficient and cool ventilation....

Full on shopping trips is a no no for me.

So far, its only been when unloading groceries from the car. He's safer secured in the carseat in the driveway back of the house (unseen from the front) than running around inside without my supervision imo.

heres my take. if you only have one child you probably are more likely to not leave your child alone in the car. For moms of 2 or more (i have 3) you are more likely to run out and leave them because taking them all out is a PITA and not an easy taSk. as long as you know they are safe then i see no problem with it.

i voted other because while i have never or will ever go INTO a place with DD still in the car, i have left the car with her in it for various things:

-back into the house for something
-mailing a letter
-dropping something off at someones house
-carrying groceries to the door of my house
-opening the house to get my dog to come outside to pee

i do these things if she's sleeping or awake. i've been tempted to run into dunkin for a coffee, i just can't.

i've actually pulled into the handicap spot of a store put my e-lights on and asked a store employee to get me something i needed and threw them a $20- with the car off & doors locked but me running back & forth between my car and the store to get my money.
