Re: When did you turn the carseat forward facing?

DS right after he turned 1 and DD at 11.5 months. DD was 23 pounds and very tall to the point where her legs were all scrunched up rear facing. She is much happier now. My pediatrician told me that the American Pediatric recommendations are still 1 year and 20 pounds.
Just an FYI, that isn't true. The AAP recommends to keep a child rear facing until she/she reaches the limit of the seat.
Toddlers/preschoolers
Convertible seats and forward-facing seats with harnesses
It is best for children to ride rear-facing as long as possible to the highest weight and height allowed by the manufacturer of their convertible seat. When they have outgrown the seat rear-facing, they should use a forward-facing seat with a full harness as long as they fit.

DD will be 2 in 1 week and she is still rear facing with no plans to turn her forward. The car seat goes up to 35-40lbs rear facing and i plan on keeping it RF until then.
Same here. 2 today. They weigh 33 and 31 lbs respectively with the weight limit at 35 so I will probably turn them soon....

DD is 16 months and rear facing still...
Just a question though, for those of you that turned your DC's...did they "enjoy" being in a car seat better? Because DD HATES it right now
YES. SO much better!
He enjoyed the car so much better when we turned his seat. He was so happy when we took him for his first car ride facing the other way.

Re: When did you turn the carseat forward facing?
26m
She was over 30lbs She is over 30inch long (33 or more)
Turned her around because she was getting close to if not surpassing the weight limit for RF.
AJ has never been alone in the backseat. I think thats a reason why she didnt care RF vs FF. Sure she sees more but she never 'hated' RF. It was just how she got around. It is easier for her to sleep FF because the sun isn't as bad. Otherwise, I wish I could have kept her RF.

Re: When did you turn the carseat forward facing?
I'll probably turn her soon. She is almost 2 and 28 pounds, 31 inches. Her legs are spread out when she sits in the car seat and it is starting to look uncomfortable for her, though she still sleeps and doesn't complain. lol.
I'll turn it around after her 2 year checkup when I speak to her ped.

DS is 33" and 22.6 lbs at 8m I'm tempted
but that video someone posted by a little boys grandfather, about how he got paralyzed sitting front facing... well that video plays in my mind. I'm scared.

Please do not turn him until he is 1 year. That is the law. If you can hold out after that all the better.

I was just going to write the same thing. Both of my boys are off the charts for height. THey are VERY tall. Try to keep him rear facing as long as possible. It doesn't matter how tall or how much they weigh, it's about the development of their little bodies.

Re: When did you turn the carseat forward facing?
DS is 13 months and still rear-facing. He was 26lbs, 8oz and 31 inches at his 12 month apptmt. Our seat goes to 40lbs rear-facing so we plan on keeping him rear-facing as long as possible, hopefully to 2 yrs.

The requirememt was 20 lbs and 12 months, so we didn't move her until she FINALLY hit the 20lb mark, which was about 15 months.

At a minimum, DC must be at least 12 months AND 20 lbs to be forward facing. The AAP recommends keeping DC rear facing as long as possible.
DS is almost 2 and still rear facing. He's a peanut and doesn't seem to mind being rear facing. I have no immediate plans to turn him around.

With Jack he was 15 mnths (the requirements back then were a year)
He was about 30lbs and very tall.
Tyler is about 28lbs right now, and also tall for his age. He will stay rear facing for as long as possible. My goal is really to get him to 18 months. If I can go past that I will be REALLY happy - but I'm trying to be realistic.
Same here.
Owen is 12 months and 26 pounds now-still rear facing, hoping to get ot 18 months.
ETS: our seat can stay rear facing until 35 pounds. If he hits that before 18 months, we will turn him.

Re: When did you turn the carseat forward facing?
Ds is 12.5 months and still rear facing. We are considering switching him now be he is very tall. He flips out getting into the car seat and his legs are almost folded. I would like to hold off for a few for months, so I guess we are just gonna wait and see what happens.

Re: When did you turn the carseat forward facing?
In NY, there actually isn't a law requiring DC to be rear facing at all. Just "an age appropriate car seat".... Everything is recommendations.
However, the current recommendations are for 2 years. The weight isn't really a factor. It's the age, strength and maturity of the neck muscles and spinal column. The longer you can wait before turning them around, the better. The best thing to do is keep them rear-facing as long as they are below the height and weight limits of the seat.
