When did you tell....
extended family? (we've already told our parents and siblings)
friends?
boss/co-workers?
My DH wants to tell everyone yesterday. I'll be 5 weeks tomorrow and we're going to see the Dr. on 4/1. I keep saying "lets wait to see what the doctor says" but I really don't want to tell the world until I'm ready which I don't think is next week! Am I being selfish? I'm just really scared that something may go wrong and I don't want to deal with having to tell a zillion people if it does.
TIA!

Re: When did you tell....
We told our parents after our first sono at 8 weeks and just told our immediate family (Aunts, Uncles, cousins) this past weekend at almost 12 weeks. I'm waiting to tell work until after my ultrascreen results come back. Only one of my friends knows, but I plan to tell the rest sometime next week. It's really a personal decision. If you are not ready yet, then talk to your DH about your concerns and do what you think is best. Good luck!

Re: When did you tell....
Each person does this differently. The first time I was pregnant I didn't wait and blabbed to everyone right away before I even saw a doctor. Once I had my doctor's appointment at 5 and a half weeks, they didn't see anything and it turned out to be a chemical preganancy. I can't tell you how horrible it was for me to have to tell everyone the bad news.
This time I didn't tell coworkers, friends etc. until I finished my first trimester (I told my parents at 6 weeks once we saw the heartbeat) to be safe and to be honest with you I think that is the best bet, because you never know what can happen.

Re: When did you tell....
my DH would have waited to tell people until i was 20 weeks if i let him
we told our parents right away
sisters and grandparents (and one aunt by mistake ) at 5 1/2 weeks
my boss knew right away
we started telling friends at 8 weeks and co-workers around 9 weeks, everyone knew by 11 weeks.
ETA: i really couldn't wait much longer to tell friends because we hang out at bars often and i am a know big wine drinker, it would have been too obvious.

Re: When did you tell....
We told our parents right away.
I told my job around 8 weeks, after we heard the heartbeats.
We told extended family around 11 weeks.
With our history of miscarriage we wanted to make sure everything was ok before we told the extended family.

Re: When did you tell....
Close family: My parents at 10 weeks His parents at 11 weeks (This ended up around 4 days from each other due to the mail)
Co-workers at 13 weeks (after ultrasound) For both of us.
Friends most of them at 13 weeks Some really close friends knew about 8-10weeks. Still have a few friends we haven’t told yet, plan to ‘announce’ this next weekend so really at 16-17 weeks the world knows.
Extended family: His mom & step-father told the world as soon as they knew My father had been holding off for the end of this month.
I felt strange saying “Hey guess what?” when I don’t look preggos and wasn’t really ‘suffering’ and I was so afraid I’d jinx myself and something bad would happen.
I felt SOOOOOO much better after 12 weeks when it actually looks like a baby and we were out of most of the murky water.
I still don’t feel right just telling random people because I feel it’s presumptuous to think they care. In a way it feels selfish and egotistical. So until I actually show (and I’ve already popped a little), I just take it on a case by case basis.

Re: When did you tell....
We told our parents and close friends right away (since I was already 8 weeks when we found out). Plus I went to the doctor within a day of getting my BFP. We told extended family right after my doctor appt.
I told co-workers that I'm extremely close with a few days after my first doctor appt (so 8.5 weeks).
Since week 12, I started very gradually telling more co-workers, but most will know after this weekend since my department is going on a retreat and it will be very obvious that I won't be drinking. I'll be 14 weeks.

Re: When did you tell....
We told our parents the day we got our BFP (I was 4 weeks). We told our siblings and a couple of very close friends shortly thereafter. Doing my best to hold out telling anyone else for awhile (probably at least until we go to the doc on 4/14) but it is so hard!

Re: When did you tell....
I just miscarried a few weeks ago and it really surprised me how I felt about telling people.
We told my parents at about 5 weeks, DH's brother and SIL at about 8 weeks and then the rest of my family at 10 weeks. I miscarried at 11 weeks and am now feeling like we should've told his parents.
We were waiting for the magic 12 week mark in case something went wrong, but when something did we suddenly felt like we were dealing with this huge thing and having to keep it a secret because no knew we were pregnant in the first place. Had they known it would've explained a lot about our behavior over Easter weekend (we didn't see anyone and I didn't even manage to send any cards) and now I just feel slightly awkward about it. We've decided we're going to tell them eventually, but it would've been so much nicer to tell them when it was good news. Just my two cents...
