When did you stop using the highchair?

He eats at a table and chair at daycare now, so is really fighting the highchair. At what age did you retire it?

ETA - DS is 18 months old

I think around 18 or 20 months....it really imporoved her eating habits.

I still have mine and DS is 17 months but he only uses it for dinner. Breakfast and lunch we eat at a booster seat at the table.

The reason I use it at dinner is just so he can't reach anything on the table that might be hot/dangerous. If I had a larger kitchen table or if he wasnt so "magnet hands" then I would retire it gladly.

I retired it at about 17 months...he does so much better in the booster now..

Around 16 months he no longer wanted any part of it. ..we switched to a booster seat, what a difference, he ate like more of a "grown up". Never once threw any food off the table like he did his high chair and was just happier to be sitting at the table with us.

Now at 2 he can sit in a chair w/o the booster and eat and with no problems. We went to a baptism Sunday and he sat in a regular grown up chair eating and sitting still for over 3 hours. I really attribute that to getting him out of the highchair.

18 months is probably a good time to start...I cant see a 2 yr old in a high chair...so that gives you time to adjust and or even move him back if you need to with some leeway.

27 months.

I would clean it, pack it away, then need it again.

the kid will sit and eat anything as long as he was in his highchair.

since we moved, its packed away for good.

DS is 2 and still uses his highchair. He likes it. Calls it his "seeeeat"

He uses a booster or sits in a chair pretty much everywhere else tho.

DD is 22 months and still in it. I am thinking about buying a booster seat.

Last week, DS is 21 months. He refused to sit in it anymore and wanted to sit in a "big boy chair" so we bought a trayless booster seat that straps to the chair and still has straps to hold him in and is height adjustable.

DD is 2 years old and perfectly happy sitting in her highchair. In fact when it's time to eat she runs over to it saying "Highchair! Highchair!" She loves to sit in it. So, I'm not fighting her.

When we go to my parents or friends she's perfectly content sitting in a booster or on a regular chair if there isn't one.

So whether it's a highchair, booster, or just on the seat, she eats just fine We see no issues either way.

DD #1=2 years
DD #2=18 mos--she simply would NOT sit in it any longer.

18 months we stopped at home.

And he happily informed me at a restaurant the other night that "highchairs are for babies" and would only sit on a booster seat.

He's 2.

If he is fighting it I would just get a booster and pack it away.

My DD has been in a booster since 18 months or so. The high chair just takes up unecessary space, and was one more thing to clean food out of nooks and crannies. So I was more than happy to get rid of it. Now she doesn't even really want the booster, she sits at the table on her knees.

At 2 he's still in a highchair. Feeding time is a nightmare as it is, I could only imagine what he would be like if he had the freedom to get down.

DD is one of those strange kids who still loves her high chair and her crib. She is almost 2 1/2 and still in both!

A bit after 1. He hated being confined to the high back behind him.

We switched him to the booster seat (the FP rainforest) since then using the tray.

For the past few weeks (he will be 2 in 2 weeks) he has been transfered to the table with the booster seat and no tray. We use a placemat on the table. We have seen a drastic improvement on his feeding indepedence.

Still using it and DD is almost 2.

DS still uses the highchair at 2 years old. No tray - we put it up agains the table but the height of that particular chair works well. When we are out he goes in a highchair as well.

I'm not in a rush to take it away yet.

As other people said....DS table manners changed DRAMATICALLY when we put him in a booster instead, no more throwing, eats better, no tantrums.

DD is 2 and uses it. She loves it. She eats well so I see no need to move her out of it.

I know kids that used it until 3.

Ale can sit in a regular chair and does when we eat out often enough, but at home I feed her in her chair.

Jack eats his food in front of the TV - It's the only way he'll eat. Plus, DH doesn't get home until much later so we all eat at different times.

Diana, this is my challenge as well. We are having huge eating problems so at the recommendation of the ped and a speech therapist, I started putting him in front of the TV for dinner only. I didn't really want the highchair in the LR and he wasn't sitting in one at daycare anyway. This TV transition is fairly new, so I am trying to figure out whether I should put him in the booster at the table and try to eat something with him or just continue with the TV on.

The whole eating thing is so frustrating for us right now, it's stressing me out.
