When did you start play dates?
With kids other than your friends' kids?
DD is 3 and in playschool now, and I have no clue when these things start. I also have a 1 year old though, and I'm not terribly keen on having to entertain another mother while the kids play-I would almost rather it just be a drop off play date

When did you start play dates?
My DS is in PreK and we do playdates at the playground. Basically the moms, grandmas, and babysitters of the kids my DS plays with all know we go to the park at xyz time each M W F or whatever. Whoever wants to meet there does. it works nicely.

This is what we did for the most part too but on weekends.
Formal playdates didn't really start with my kids until Kindergarten (and they aren't that frequent).

When did you start play dates?
my boys are 7 & and almost 4. For preschool, playdates are at the playground- so its nice bc even if they other mom is there, theres a lot of other stuff going on, so its not as bad with keeping the other mom entertained. and bonus your house stays clean! LOL on cold days, we meet at the mcdonalds that has a play area- even if we just get a soda and a small ice cream for the kids or something. we've had a few playdates at the house- but not too many. my house is always a complete mess ( i'm a SAHM so we're always home messing things up! LOL ) the drop-off playdates at the house have pretty much all been with our neighbor's son who we're really close with.

Re: When did you start play dates?
When DD was 2 I started her in nursery school, there was one other girl in her class and I think maybe 6 months in we started getting together for playdates. The girls were closer to 3 at the time.

3.5. Thank god I love the moms. In PreK we have had one so far. I get along with the mom so it’s nice. We are actually planning dinner after the holidays.

When did you start play dates?
Dd started having occasional playdate at the playground around age 3. Once in a blue moon we have one at our house. But very rare and usually only during warm weather when the kids can play outside. Dd is 5 now, and what I'm wondering is at what age can kids finally just be dropped off at a friend's house for a playdate without their parent having to stay?

When did you start play dates?
I will say-I miss how it was when I was little. Even when I was 3/4 I would go knock on the doors of my neighbors and we would just all play together-inside/outside.
We even had sleepovers when I was like 3! I feel like these things never happen anymore, and it makes me a bit sad. I love those memories.

When did you start play dates?
I met moms through our library. After a few months I knew I liked hanging out with them so play dates started then when the kids were just toddlers. Sometimes at someone's home but other times at the library, park, aquarium, etc. Dd1 went to preschool with some of the same kids so we continued play dates but the circle grew over time to include more kids from class or the neighborhood.
Dd2 is 3 and in a different preschool and I don't see play dates happening any time soon since there's not much occasion to get to know other parents. Dd1 is in kindergarten and hasn't had any play dates with classmates yet (and that includes last year when she was also in elem school for prek). She plays a bit after school most days bc we walk but that's it so far. I'm not opposed to it especially where I've gotten to know the parents well enough but everyone is so busy these days.
I grew up on a dead end and we were outside with other kids all day every day. Totally get that and I wish my kids could experience that but times have definitely changed in most neighborhoods.

My kids are young, so still play outside with neighborhood friends for the most part. I think it depends on the neighborhood...if you have a lot of working parents and kids aren’t around, then you have to schedule play dates with other non-working parents.

I agree with you! Some of my best childhood memories are from playdates and sleepovers and we started super young. I was definitely having sleep overs with friends almost every weekend when I was in kindergarten. It's definitely not like that now!
We started more playdates at people's houses this year. DD is 3 and in nursery school 5 days a week. I would actually do more playdates at our house, but it's so chaotic and they always make such a mess

When did you start play dates?
DH asks me about this all the time and I tell him no one does them. I guess I'm pretty off base....
I honestly have no idea how working parents even have play dates. I don't get home until 6 most days and DH at 7. Our weekends are packed.

That's how I feel. We don't really have a whole lot of time for play dates. Although the parents of the kids in my kid's class (pre K) set up get-togethers sometimes on the weekends, like at the park playground or at the beer garden (which was awesome by the way lol)... they text us & then if DH & I are able to, one of us brings DS or we both go & bring all the kids depending on where it is. This doesn't happen too often though. Mostly my kids just play with each other.

Re: When did you start play dates?
Do you mean like play dates where the child initiates the plan?
My DS started school last year at 3 and would come home and tell me about the kids in his class he was friends with. Throughout the year I got to know the moms of the kids he talked about and we’d make plans. Now he’s 4 and we actually have a first play date with a new school friend this week who he has been insisting he make a plan with.
It can be sorta awkward to entertain a mom you don’t know.... once my DS had a friend come with the DAD which felt even more awkward, but we actually became good friends with those parents and now we see them for dinner a few times a month (with and without kids lol) ..so you never know, sometimes you can make some new friends yourself. I try to limit first time play dates to an hour or so... or more if the kids are having a REALLY good time.

DD never had playdates until Elementary school for that very reason. My theory was- she is playing with these kids for 10 hours a day (she went to daycare form 8 am to 6 pm). Our weekends were for us. She didn't need more play time than the 10 hours a day she was getting at daycare.
Even now, she's only had a few play dates. It's hard because I work full time and weekends are chock full of other stuff.

Re: When did you start play dates?
My older DD was not until the end of first grade. She somehow made friends with 3 girls with working moms so we all get it. There have been movie play dates, house play dates, park play dates. We all get along and actually the whole families get together and go out for dinner Too. We all also have younger children in the same grade as well( they are all now in first) though mine is a girl and the others are boys so that helps too. For my second DD she also started in first and her best friends mom and dad are also great but they are more drop off play date type of people and that's fine with us too. When they were in daycare we didn't do any...the daycare was by my job which is nowhere near where I live so it would not have been convenient at all.
