Re: When did you drink?

My friends and I were the "good kids" We were respectful, we were all dean's list/top of the class and most were involved in afterschool activities. . . BUT. . . we were drinking at 13/14. We knew what stores we could buy beer at and we drank at the park or wherever. NOW, I think it is nuts - but back then of course, I thought it was normal.

Re: When did you drink?
I just think that it is a different social climate now than when we we're younger. I was drinking and smoking at 14 but I also watched R rated movies and as much MTV as I wanted. Today's kids can be very sheltered, not to mention the rules and punishment are ALLOT harsher now then in the 1980's and 1990's we grew up with the breakfast club and Heather's with teenagers smoking drinking drugs sex - my cousin was still watching Hanna Montana at 14. She does not have the "street smarts" I feel I did to deal with the situations hanging out and drinking can get her into. When I started HS we were still allowed to smoke in the lounge and go off campus for lunch...... If someone got into a fistfight the police werent coming to the school,if someone got caught smoking they werent suspended ect ect.

same here... BUT i didn't try alcohol (other than the sips of wine my Dad gave me) until I was in college. even then, i hated beer. i discovered a love for tequila and wine.
However, I feel like almost everyone else was replacing their parents' vodka with water every weekend.

Re: When did you drink?
11 At home cause i kept accidently drinking the screwdrivers. Then dad figured he might as well teach me.
I was the A-B honor kid, girl scout, volleyball player, goodie goodie, nerdy but odd.
I dont think it made a diff. Made turning 21 sorta anticlimatic. I had no pity for my drunk friends in college and thought the HS kids who lie to drink were sad and stupid. *shrug* all relative I guess.
Would I let AJ drink at 11.. depends on whats going on. Id rather have her drink at home and take the 'thrill' out of it than sneak behind my back and get in trouble.
But i like that the OP's sister was honest about it. That shows true character. Good for her!

Re: When did you drink?
i think i was 15/16 with friends as long as they arent putting themselves in harmful situations (getting into cars, harming themselves) and not binging, i think its just a part of HS... we would go to friends homes and have a beer or two etc... I was still an A student, in advanced classes etc.

Re: When did you drink?
I drank sips every now and again from like 15 on, but I didn't really start to drink (on the weekends only) until Junior year of high school.

Re: When did you drink?
I drank that early and a lot of people I know did but in retrospect, it seems very young and I would be upset to know my DD (or family member) was doing it.

Actually I find things for kids today are quite the opposite. The average 14 year old is not watching Hannah Montana and kids are less sheltered or rather have more access to information & ways to get into bad situations IMO

Re: When did you drink?
I had my first "drink" on my graduation day. It was a wine cooler. I had an amaretto sour at a wedding when I was 19. Not much else.

Same with me......not quite that early, I think maybe 15 going on 16, but we were the "good" kids too.

No, she does NOT have the street smarts. And I think she knows that too lol And neither do her friends. Which is why I can not imagine them doing this.

Re: When did you drink?
20...I couldn't stand the smell of alcohol, so I had no desire to even drink it. I had fake ID in high school and college, but it was to get me into bars & clubs with friends. I was always designated driver up until then, which was fine by me.
A friend got me to try a Red Devil because it didn't taste like alcohol and that's when I started.

Re: When did you drink?
I drank at 14...but not a lot, and not often. I tried to though.
She can hang and not drink. I had friends like that in high school. One guy didn't drink because he had alcoholism in his family and we all respected that.
