what would you do with this bathroom? UPDATE

i am at a loss ... this is our new main bath. the counter is a corian, like a muted purple/mauve and the walls are a green (which I dont mind painting) I just cannot even come up with a scheme or a theme?

I was thinking of doing something floral or beachy. this is not our decor so the curtain, shelving over the toilet and accessories will go. I just dont even know where to begin. Chat Icon

maybe one of these as inspiration?

ok, so I decided to go along with the white and I LOVE it! but what else can I do? I do plan to get a white valance. how about decor? black and white?

the counter BTW is a sandy color, not mauve (thank god )

Re: what would you do with this bathroom?

Honestly, I would keep it clean and simple..

crisp white shower curtain, white towels, maybe a nice potted plant.. but I'd keep it simple.. I think it'd look too busy with those other curtains (although I do like them)

Re: what would you do with this bathroom?

first thing i would do is paint the molding around the window white. the wood finish does not go.

id also remove the shelf thing above the toilet. maybe put in a black and white rectangular photo or something- maybe even a framed mirror.

id go with a slate gray on the walls and white towels hanging.

white shower curtain

maybe a purple orchid on the counter

although i love the shower curtains you posted, i dont love them for the room

i love this idea but trim in the entire house is wood. I debated having it all painted white but that is such a huge job and $$$. maybe ill just start painting it white in this room and do it little by little myself. my current house has all white trim and molding and I am SO going to miss it.

if I do paint it white, will it look weird that the entire rest of the house has wood trim?

no it would not look weird at all

i think its worth it to paint all the trim in the house eventaully, though.

Re: what would you do with this bathroom?

I would paint the molding white, walls a nice soothing color and just pick a shower curtain to match. I think it's a great space to work with and can be modernized easily.

I would paint all the molding white. I find the natural molding makes a home look very dated. I had the painter paint our moldings in our kitchen and you can't believe how modern it makes it appear.

the bathroom is so separate you can totally get away with painting just the molding in that room for now! It is such a crisp and clean and pretty new looking bathroom... the white walls are a little too boring... I would put a light color (gray, lavender) on there, and a shower curtain with a simple design! Is the counter pink??

Agreed.. to be honest, you can paint the trim yourself.. VERY easy to do.. and although I would personally do the entire house, you most certainly don't have to if you don't want to

Re: what would you do with this bathroom?

ok, another question regarding trim - does it need to be sanded or treated in anyway before I paint it white?

do I just use a glossy or semi-gloss white paint?

everything is wood, doors, railings, trim, all moldings and I would like to do it all in the entire house.

the doors in particular, can I just paint them? they are solid wood and I am wondering if they need to be sanded first Chat Icon

here are a few more pics, WOOD all OVER lol Chat Icon Chat Icon

again, not my decor - sellers stuff

Re: what would you do with this bathroom?

Looking at the pics, they would need to be sanded and then primed and painted..

Re: what would you do with this bathroom?

Agree with the decor porkchop posted.

Also, my mom had wood molding everywhere in her house and we just primed and painted right over it, no sanding.

It honestly killed me to do so - it was solid wood molding. Chat Icon

We left the doors wood and just painted the trim.

I couldn't agree more. I think the shower curtains are nice but too busy with that color counter top. White trim will definitely make the room crisper. I think less is more in this room

You could also change the knobs on the vanity for a more modern look.

Re: what would you do with this bathroom?

Although I don't love, I don't mind the wood trim as it is consistent with the rest of the house.

Remove the window treatment and as someone else suggested, the piece above the toilet. Once done then start thinking of a color palette. If you still don't like the wood trim on the window and aren't quite ready to tackle the task of painting (and yes, it must be sanded, primed and painted) then get an outside mount blind or shade.

Take pics again when you are settled and room is cleared of owners items. Pic is a little dark and hard to see the true colors.

Again, a little hard to see the colors (or perhaps it's my monitor). Ah, a skylight. Hmm... I would keep the window trim as is and perhaps get an outside mount blind or shade.

eta: what color is the baseboard? stained wood, white or tile?
