What Small SUV should I get-Update at end
Trade in for new CR-V(what I have now), Rav4, Ford Escape or lease a Jeep Compass (friend works at dealership)?
I always go by what Consumer Reports recommends but they say the CR-V is tops and I am having problems with it.

UPDATE: Just got a quote for RAV4 sport (4cyl, leather, AWD) for $25,828
Waiting to hear from Honda regarding CRV
Does anyone know what model RAV4 is similar to CRV EX-L? I tried to price on website but it is too confusing.

Mr bro has the Rav and loves it...had it for about 1.5 yrs no issues. DH & I both have Toyotas and love them.
Had a Jeep Liberty (2003)..it was a Consumers Recommended & had nothing but problems so I steer clear of anything Jeep but that's just me.
My folks just bought an Escape used and are loving it. I have driven the Rav & Escape and prefer the Rav's handling.
I'd say test drive them & see which you like the best. Sometimes just sitting in a car will help you decide...I know it did for me last time I shopped..didn't like blind spots in some of the cars I thought i would love or the layout of controls.

Subaru Forrester always gets top ratings for safety.
I'm on my second and {knock wood} they've been virtually trouble free and handle well in bad weather.

I have a 2001 Ford escape and it is a great truck - Almost 90k miles and never any problems with it. Last years 2 feet of snow was not a problem either for the 4 wheel drive system. I went thru the snow at 5am on the day that there was 2 feet of snow - before the plows hit and my truck was driving with no issues at all. I also recommend:
The new Kia Sportage or Sorrento
The MAzda CX7
Hyundai Tuscon or Santa fe.

Yup. I have the CX9 as well and love it. Got it 4th of July weekend '10 and have had no problems at all.
Wantagh Mazda was awesome to work with too. We tried some other Honda dealerships and they were sleazy. I never considered this car until the girls on here gave great recs!
My SIL has the Honda CRV and I've borrowed it a few times and it was just like driving my old Ford Focus to me.
If the CX9 is too big or out of your budget, they also do good deals on the smaller CX7. The major difference is it does not have the 3rd row.
If not then I would still choose a Honda over a Ford for anything other than a pick-up truck. When I had my Focus I had CONSTANT problems with it.
Never owned a Jeep so can't comment ;).

we financed a cx7 this summer and we LOVE it. we don't have kids yet so it's fine for us and would still be ok with even 2 kids. we got ours for around 24k.

We had a '99 CR-V and traded it in for a '11 CR-V. It was an easy decision for us. We had a great experience with the first CR-V and Honda service in general.

We tried to decide between those models this summer and test drove them all. Ended up going with a Subaru Forester instead - for the same price you get 4wd and some nice extras. It drives great and we're really happy with it. For the Ford Escape you had to pay so much more for everything, and the RAV-4 was off our list right away for the stupid way the rear door (trunk) opens.

LOOOOOOOOVE my Rav4!!!!!! I have a 2007 Rav4 V6 Limited and it's AWESOME!! I recommend the V6........my truck is SUPER zippy, which is something I was looking for. Such a great SUV. I've had mine now for 4 years and I haven't had a single problem. Aside from routine maintenance my truck has never been in the shop. Can't go wrong with a Toyota!

another vote for the the RAV! LOVE mine!!!
I had a 2006 RAV that i was in LOVE with, too... but it got totaled in Novemeber  (NOT my fault!). when looking for a new car, i basically refused to look at anything else! HAHA because i loved my first one so much! so now i have a 2011 RAV it drives so nice (more like a car than a truck), has a lot of space, and gets good gas mileage
this is my third toyota (my first car was a corolla) and i just think they're made well and just good cars all around.

I agree! I love mine and will definitely get another one once this one dies. They are great cars.

another vote for Subaru.
we have the '12 Outback and it's lovely. top rated for safety. it's built so well, that it's saved people's lives in awful car accidents.
and it's cute.
not quite an suv size wise, more cross over like, but it fits the bill for us.
love it. and in love with it.

Really? See and I thought (and think) the total opposite. I feel like my Rav4 drives like a car, I don't even feel like I'm in a truck. Guess it's all personal preference.

I ended up getting a RAV4 since I already have Toyota and they gave me a good deal. I traded my CR-V in and used the money for a down pmt (plus came away with $2000) so my monthly pmt would be low.
The salesman told me to come back in 2 years so he could buy it from me ( i have a 3 year lease). I don't know if he was joking or serious.

Another vote for the Subaru Forester. I love it and would get another one in a heartbeat. I test drove the CRV and the Rav4 a few years ago when I was buying and I liked the Forester the best.
