i hate that i do this, but i normally throw the sponge away after i clean the bathroom.
i just can't keep a sponge that has wiped down a toilet..

I skeeve sponges...
they are bacteria havens
I clean EVERYTHING in my house with paper towels!
I only use a sponge to clean dishes(1x), and then toss after Im done with it

I am the same way with sponges. We have one for our dishes, but it is only used for a short time before it goes into the garbage. DH tried to use it once to clean the counter tops and I flipped!

I work with a guy who has a severe skin flaking problem and his chair looks like yo left it out in the snow.
I am a Man, a former Marine, been around the world and this skeeves me.
The flaking does not bother me too much because I realize it is a genetic disease but the scratching with whatever tool is available (pen, bottle cap, etc) skeeves me out.

Regarding the phone thing... I worked with a woman who caked liquid foundation on her face every day. She had so much on that it clogged all the little holes in the mouthpiece of her phone. Black phone with orange/tan holes.
I found it on my phone once when I got back from vacation so I cleaned it with a paper clip, sanitized it, and from that point on, I locked my handset in my drawer whenever I was gone for extended periods.
I was a paramedic for years so not much freaked me out. The only thing that could give me the creepy crawlies and make my stomach flip over was skin infections.
Three times I almost threw up when I worked in the Long Beach hospital ER. Once from a guy with a yellow and green swollen circle in the fold of his elbow (from shooting up), the same guy when they stuck a freakin needle right in the middle of the green circle (which was the size of a dime) and drew out fluid for testing, and lastly when I saw a poor elderly woman come in from a nursing home with severe bed sores that had eaten away at her skin.

Rodents, people slurping food (especially something solid. DH does it all the time. IT drives me nuts!), hocking a loogie, people chewing gum (or food)in my ear, body odor, garlic breath. OMG I sound OCD!!

Ask anyone that knows me...almost EVERYTHING skeeves me. I swear...it's bad.
So bad that when I told my mom I was pregnant with my first child, after all the crying and celebrating, she laughed at me and said, "How are you EVER going to change a diaper? You gag when the wind blows crooked."  
Sad, but true. But miraculously, my own kids' poops and body leakages don't gross me out.

The smell of it, the sight. I cannot stand to see people eat it. I have BBQ's all summer long and people know if they want mustard they need to bring their own and eat their food when I'm not arouund
