What is your vacation "pattern" each year?

Are there typical vacations or types of vacations that you do annually?

For example, we take one kids vacation - possibly two, because there is a nine year age difference between DC and their interests are different. We have to do this during peak times, since I'm a teacher now.

DH and I also take one long weekend, usually to a baseball themed location since DH's goal is to see all the ML ballparks.

My mom, DS and I also try to go away for a night or two. We didn't last year, but we are going to New Hope for a night this next week when I'm off.

Every couple of years I need something longer and further away - like a week in Europe or Disney. Since my son is here, I think it's going to be more of the latter!

What do you do? I have major vacay brain!Chat Icon

It varies. We like to to Disney World In October or December. We've just discovered a total LOVE of Disney Cruise Line, so I think we will add a Spring cruise into that rotation as well.

We also like to look at a BIG vacation every so often. We wanted to take my mom to Italy in lieu of a big party or gift for her for her 60th and me for my 30th, but I am so hesitant to plan when depending on so many other factors (my mom, her pets, my sister, etc).

We are planning to go back to Sandals at some point either this year or next year

and next February we are going to do Disneyland (Anaheim) and Aulani (Disney's Resort and Spa on Oahu).

We usually do a cruise in January and then a big trip later in the year with a lot of smaller weekend trips in between

Re: What is your vacation "pattern" each year?

DH and I always used to do a trip during the summer since I am a teacher and there's more flexibility than using winter or spring break.
Since our honeymoon, we have done 1 yr US vacation and next year International vacation.

Once DD was born we go away alone one summer and as a family the next.

Next week we decided to go on a family trip to the Poconos before Chat Icon comes in June to give DD one last special trip just the 3 of us.

Not sure if we will be able to stick to our summer vacation pattern this year with Chat Icon

Re: What is your vacation "pattern" each year?

We used to do Disney every November for the first 5 years we were together. Once we started wedding planning though, we had to take a break from the constant vacationing. We also would take a cruise every May with DH's family but we haven't done that since the cruise we took after our May 2010 wedding. I guess it's because DH's brother and sister are getting married and moving out, too, so everyone is short on cash.

Now it seems like May and September/October are our vacationing months.

Re: What is your vacation "pattern" each year?

my family is scattered and I am limited to 15 vacation days and 2 personal days. So most of our vacatons are to visit my family since everyone is a 6 hour drive or more away. I usually take days for either xmas or easter. And sometimes i use a day to extend a long weekend. Last year and this year we have been super lucky to be able to use a few days to go on a vacation. last year I used three vacation days and we went to mexico and this year I am taking a whole week and we are going to isla mujeres. next year I don't think we will do this though. when i use vacation days for vacation, i sacrifice visitng family. I would say we do mostly small trips to places with ina few hours of us that we can do in a weekend. Usually one in the fall and one in the summer.

We go to Disneyland and Disney World every year (except last year when LO was born, we only made it to Disneyland). The time of year varies.

Visiting my parents in CO and brother upstate.

I want to do a yearly Woodloch trip eventually.

We usually do a Caribbean beach vacation for a week and then a longer 2+ week vacation over seas. Last year we went to Anguilla then to Thailand. This year Mexico this month and India in November.

Re: What is your vacation "pattern" each year?

Oh an PP reminded me. We have also been visiting family in CO every year. in '10 we went for Labor Day weekend, and this past October I went by yself (left Dh at home) and worked from their house instead of from home. I am glad I got to spend so much time with family (it ended up being 10 days since my flight was cancelled due to snow), but I don't think I would go without DH agian

Re: What is your vacation "pattern" each year?

Our regular trip is Florida in June for a week. That's a definite. Then we aim for another weeklong family trip- I'm posting from Myrtle Beach. Then we have a few weekenders in the rotation. My BFF has a house in New Hampshire that we got to for a long weekend in the summer. My bil girlfriend has a house in the Catkills- another weekender. Then I always try to get one more weekend as a family, one weekend as a couple, and I'm pushing for a third weeklong family trip this year- Christmas break in Mexico. Can you tell I like to go away. Lol

Re: What is your vacation "pattern" each year?

We don't have a pattern but we do take a big trip once a year in the fall - usually 12-14 days international.

My sister lives in Atlanta so we go to visit her and her kids at least 2X a year, usually spring & fall.

Then we do a bunch of long weekends in the US in the summer between all of that.

With our first LO due in Sept we are going on vacation earlier in the year than usual for a babymoon, then who knows what kinds of vacations we'll take after that!!

Re: What is your vacation "pattern" each year?

We like to do 1 or 2 week-long vacations, then a few long weekend trips scattered throughout the year.

This year we did a 4 day ski weekend, then we have a week-long at Lancaster and possibly another one week-long to Cali or Orlando.

Then we may just do 1 or 2 more long weekend trips within 5 hour drive of NJ.

We do one big trip every summer around the time of our anniversary. We try to do a couple of weekend/ over night trips spread out through out the year.

We do two long trips a year, 8 nights or more, with a few 3 or 4 night trips scattered in between.

For the long trips we like to do one focused on relaxation and one that is more active. Last year we did Peru in May and then Hawaii in Oct. This year we are doing Greece in June and then Costa Rica in November.

Next year is hopefully baby year, so the trips will definitely be much different (if they even happen at all!)

We do one big trip usually in the fall. Last year we went to Maui for 2 weeks. This year we did a trip with dh's family to Disney in January. I'm going back to Disney in may with my mom and sister. DH and I also have 5 days in Disney booked for October. We were looking into a short trip to Bermuda in early October too.

Re: What is your vacation "pattern" each year?

We usually do one week long trip and a couple of weekends or day trips.

Last year we did a week long cruise, a weekend at great wolf lodge, a few weekends in DC (for my brother's wedding), sesame place and I did a trip out to the Hamptons Decorator Showhouse with my mom and grandma. We are in NJ so it was an overnight at my parent's house. DH and I also went to a nice hotel for our anniversary. I would really like to be able to repeat that this year - we will have to see what our budget permits.

This year we would like to go to Hershey Park for a few days and stay at the lodge. Last week we took a day trip into the city to see the American Museum of Natural History with the kids (fantastic). We also did a weekend away at Coco Key because we had a groupon for it. (I would not go there again.) I have a few decorator show house events planned with my mom, MIL, and grandma.

We usually visit ILs in AZ every year and take spin off trips from there - CA, Mexico, etc.

We have been doing PA for years now, but this summer is packed already.

We try to do a "big" trip every 3-5 years.

Re: What is your vacation "pattern" each year?

We try to do 2 vacations a year. One is always a trip back to NY to visit our families - we alternate years, so we go either for the holidays or sometime in the summer.

And then we try to take a vacation just for us, but the past few years that's ended up being family-related as well... we've had weddings, graduations, milestone birthdays, so we've used our vacation time to be there for those events. I'm looking forward to going away somewhere with just DH again someday!

Re: What is your vacation "pattern" each year?

Now that we have DS, our vacation pattern will change. He is 11 months and we went on our first family vacation last month. I think we are going to try to do one week long trip every August to someplace within driving distance and a trip in March or April that would require us to fly- Disney, the caribbean, the west coast, etc. I would also like to do long weekends here and there to places like Boston, Newport, Philly, Poconos...

Re: What is your vacation "pattern" each year?

I am home with my son now but previously I worked in education so we always travel during peak time and/or the summer. I am jealous of all the great deals people get that are not limited to the school schedule!

We usually do (did) one big trip a year and then a few weekend getaways/trips to my parents condo in Ft. Lauderdale.
