Re: what is your nationality(heritage)

Shelly basically covered everything I would have said about why many Jews consider "Jewish" to be their nationality, although it is a religion. I can see why it is difficult to understand, as most non-Jews do not refer to their religion as their nationality. My family is from all over Eastern Europe, but we certainly don't consider ourselves Polish or Romanian. My culture and way of life is defined by being Jewish - the foods we eat (or don't eat), the language my grandmother spoke, the dancing we do at weddings, etc...for that reason, it is not just my religion, but also my culture.

To answer the original question, my nationality is American; my heritage is Jewish, but if someone just asked me, "What are you?" I would say "Jewish".

I also don't get why it is PC to call every black person "african american"

Quite a lorge amount of people are not from Africa?
Actually a bunch of my friends get iritated by it

I don't consider myself African American, I'm Haitian American bc I was born in the US both of my parents were born in Haiti.

I believe that all black people whether they from the carribbean or born of slaves in US are descendents of African people. But that's JMO.

I know people who are AA and prefer "black" and then there are people who prefer 'African American". But it is annoying because I never want to offend anyone and I never know which one a person prefers.

We are both Irish and German

IMO jewish is a religion

my grandmother mom was married to a guy who was jewish i did not know this till yesterday i guess i am both religion but did not know till now. yes jewish is a religion but its also part of your heritage i mean if you have a relative in your family married to someone of that heritage than you become that part.

I would think the only way you would be jewish is if this gentleman was your great-grandfather...
