IMO jewish is a religion
I have a question about this. I have always assumed that jewish was a religion too. Like when people ask me my nationality, I dont tell them I am catholic. I am very confused by this. What is the right answer?

EXACTLY
IMO i have often wondered the same thing and even questioned a few people... i have resolved it that Jewish or catholic or any other is a religion answer... IMO decent means a specific area on the map not what you believe in...
What is "latina?

Technically, you are correct. There is no country "Jewland" or whatever so if you are asking nationality, that wouldn't be a proper answer. However, so many Jews unfortunately don't always know what their 'nationalities' are since they were herded all over Europe Additionally, 'Jewish' is a heritage moreso than Catholic so while they're both religions, it does make more sense to answer Jewish than it would be Catholic.
ETS: and after my tangent, I should probably answer the question I am of 100% Irish descent.

Re: what is your nationality(heritage)
A lot of Jews also consider Jewish a heritage because, beyond a religion, the traditions pervade into so many parts of your life- the way you eat, etc... Also- Jews have maintained their traditions regardless of what country they lived in. Sure there are some variations amongst the Jews from Europe and the Jews from the Middle East- but overall- no matter what country we lived in- our traditions were the same.
Also- in most countries- Jews did not integrate with the general population- so we maintained our separate identity from the rest of the country. My father was born in Russia and my mother was born in Poland- but my grandparents did not deal with the non-Jewish population in either country. They were not considered "Russian" by the Russians or "Polish" by the Poles since they were Jewish. In fact, neither of my parents were considered citizens of the countries they were born in. (that also may be because of the war). Both my parents were raised in Israel and here.
DH is Israeli of middle eastern descent.

True. I worked with a Tibetan Buddhist and when asked his heritage- it was "Tibetan Buddhist"- not just Tibetan. I guess we're not the only ones who do this.
