What is your doctor's stance on peanuts?

DD is 9 months. At 6 months, he told us that we could start giving her anything we wanted including peanuts. The only things he told us to avoid until after age 1 are honey and syrups. I really trust our ped but peanut allergies make me nervous so we haven't introduced peanut butter yet. PB&J would be a nice addition to her lunch options though. Anyone else introduce PB before age 1 or have their per recommend doing so?

ETA: I guess the recommendation by the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology is probably what my ped is relying on:

We waited til 2, but I heard the recommendation changed.

My ped gave me the ok at 1 to give peanuts. Even though yours gave the ok at 6 months, I would probably wait close to a year before trying peanut butter. Just to ease my mind.

Im sure my baby has eaten something that has peanut oil in it. My Dr said I he wld be concerned if I had a history of the allergy (which we dont). My Mom let my soon to be 7 m old have a lil taste of peanut butter mousse & she was fine. Im not going to give her a whole sandwich now..maybe when she is a lil bigger.
With my other kids I gave them peanut butter prob @ a yr old...

My Ped said that since neither of us have any allergies we could try peanut whenever we wanted.

They say 2, but we are going to give it to them before their dr apt this week. I'd kinda rather know if they are allergic.

Yes the thought is the longer you hold off the more chance they will become allergic. My daughter's allergist said when my younger one was 2 that the time to try is around 6 months for things ....holding off increases the risk. That she was past the safe window long before (we were speaking about shellfish and foods in general).

My doctor said 2 years of age and he specializes in allergies.

My DD had peanut butter before age 1, she was fine. We don't have a history of food allergies in our family so I wasn't too scared to try it out.

DS is now 10 months, he's had things with peanut products in them and he's been fine so far.

My ped told me to wait until she was 3. We don't have any allergies but he said what is the rush. Any way even though I tell every one that watches dd watch for nuts. My family has given her sweet potatoes With pecans and peanuts in the shell to give to the squirrels. I'm not sure what they missed in understanding but she was OK no issues but I still won't give it to her to eat

I got the okay at 9 months (same as yours- everything but honey). I did give it before a year and now at 20 months it is her number one request!

My per said wait until 2. But this was a little while back- and I think they are changing the recs.

My Dr. said a bit after 1...DD went on a protein strike and we had no family history so we got the green light..before 1...I'm not sure but I would do the peanut butter and not the whole nut..DD is 2.5 and I haven't given her a whole nut yet

For DS 1, the ped said 1. For DS 2, the same ped said 6 months since the recommendation had changed. I think I waited until 18 months to introduce peanut butter due to the consistency.

My ped told me 1 year. I gave it to him right away. We are a house of peanut lovers, so we wanted to make sure he didn't have allergies as soon as we could.

when dd was starting food, my ped's recs were "no honey or milk until she's a year"... then at one point I remember asking about berries or something and his response, "is that honey or milk?" he has sarcastic humor - which I kind of like - and he's very laid back. obv just bc he says something is okay, doesn't mean I'm GOING to do it - I think as mommies we should do what we are comfortable with, with OUR children. dd is 14 months and I still haven't introduced nuts to her... but had she not had a milk allergy and been the pickiest eater in creation, I may have done it long ago, knowing the ped thought it was fine

Just a FYI I always tell everyone, just because you have no family history of nut allergies does not mean your kids won't get them. We have 0 food allergies in our family and my oldest has a peanut abd almond allergy. Where he got it from I have no idea. Someone told me the other day to make sure I eat peanuts while pregnabt( I'm currently PG with my third) to prevent an allergy. Or I have heard that BF helps reduce the risk significantly. Well I had peanut butter through all my pregnancies and BF both my Sons.

I gave my son with allergies peanut butter at 2. He got a rash the first time and then second time a rash and told me his throat hurt. I like to wait till they can talk a little. He had actually had two things with peanuts in it before two by accident and had no reaction. My younger son has yet to have any peanuts. He will be 2 in March. I'm nervous! My sons allergy is mild but he had peanut butter by accident during the summer abd he was throwing up, getting a rash, abd telling me his throat hurt. We went straight to ER, it's scary!!

Of course most of your children will be fine if you have no food allergies but just wanted to tell people to not always assume they won't. So you can guess I would say no way to giving peanuts at 6 months.

I think the logic behind age 2 is that they can communicate better if they aren't feeling well or can't breathe after eating BP.

Our ped gave us the clear to introduce it to DD at 15-months. I gave her some peanut butter on a spoon and let her lick it. We watched her intently for the next 30-minutes and no reaction. She loves it and we have no issues giving her PB or nuts to snack on now.
