what is wrong with him? 4 months old, excessive drool, VERY fussy, putting everything in his mouth, and

he does NOT want to nurse right now. or be put down.

he is NEVER like this. he seems MISERABlbe but I don't know why.

he doesn't have a temperature, he is not constipated and he is in between fits of fuss, his usual laughy smiling curious self.

but he won't go down to go to sleep. not on me. not in the swing. and he won't let me nurse him to sleep.

but he is TIRED.

could it be teething? I don't SEE anything in his gumline.

but he is NOT happy.

he's not touching his ears or anything so I don't think it's anything like an ear infection...then again what do I know.

any suggestions?!Chat Icon

Definetely sounds like teething! Although you may not see any white bumps with the tooth coming out, they definetely still teeth.

It really sounds like it is teething related but I just want to say that my son didn't really fuss with his ears when he had ear infections. Try putting a finger behind an ear and just move the ear around and determine whether you hear, feel or even see any fluid. Anytime my son had an ear infection, I could sense the movement of fluid in his ears. Give it a try, do it gently Chat Icon .

My Mom would say Yay to scotch on the gums and Nay to feeling defeated about this nursing strike. I only nursed for a few weeks, but I know that "strikes" are common at your stage. Don't lose hope!

I would definitely call the ped to have them double check about the ear infection (DS ran a very low fever when he had an ear infection) but it really does sound like teething to me. DS started teething around that time and had his first two teeth at 5.5 months. Poor Luce!

I gave infant tylenol if he woke during the night, and Hyland's teething tablets during the day.

sounds like textbook teething to me - then again what the heck do I know.... 1st time around for me

Chloe got her first 2 teeth just shy of 5 months....

whats been working for her, 2 hylands and a dab of baby oragel, followed up with a frozen pacifier.

If that doesn't work we break out the tylenol.

Sounds like teething. It's happening over here too. When it was really bad I gave him Tylenol right before bed (we did this 2 nights in a row). Other than that we used Humphrey's and bought Sophie. Also, Joshua seemed to get some relief from me putting my finger in his mouth, the knuckle part. I'd never done that before but it worked well. He could suck and put pressure against his gums.

I am in teething hell over here also. He is fighting every bottle. I give him tylenol when he's in pain like this (per my ped)

Try taking a wet washcloth and holding it in his mouth. This works too (or stick it in the freezer for a few minutes!

S got his 2 bottom teeth at 4months, it sounds exactly like Luce's symptoms; no tugging ears or fever at all; I simply elevated his mattress (he was still in the bassinette at that point) - I rolled a towel and placed it under the mattress... It totally worked. Laying flat is painful for teethers, as the blood "pools" in the gums and throbs; elevating helps prevent that!!!

We are going through the same thing here. All I can do is give him the teethers to chew on or my fingers. And baby tylenol.

I don't want to alarm you, but it sounds like coxsacie... I would bring him to the ped.... does he have fever? Cailen would get it even without fever.

ETA - I reread and saw he doesn't have fever. Does he have any blisters on his hands?

When Santino fusses a little during nursing due to teething I get and icecube, put it in a washcloth and let him such on it for a little bit. This helps numb his gums and then he will go back to nursing without a prob. Hope this works for you

Ps..sounds like teething to meChat Icon

I think it is totally teething! My dcs teethed very early but didn't cut teeth until months later! It was not fun!

We used hyland's teething tabs and they were a life saver!

Re: what is wrong with him? 4 months old, excessive drool, VERY fussy, putting everything in his mouth, and

DS has been sucking on his hands now for weeks. puts everything in his mouth. and although DS has always been fussy, he was getting a lot better..tuesday nite i came home and my mom was watching him all day. they were playing on the mat right before i came home and out of nowhere he burst out screaming, crying..for a good 15 min. he was sobbing too which i havent seen him do yet.

i thought it was his gums so i put the teething gel on and gave him a bottle and that calmed him down.

he's been fussy here and there and rubs his eyes, yet wont go down for a nap easily.

it sounds like your DS is starting to teethe.
