What does it mean to be on bed rest?

This might be such a stupid question. Please forgive me if it is.


When the Dr. puts you on bed rest does that mean you literally have to stay in bed (besides having to get up to use the bathroom and stuff). Or does it just mean he wants you to limit your activity and perhaps stop working? I am not on bed rest (and hope I wont have to be) but Im just curious...

Bed rest is just that..... You are supposed to stay in bed. Then there is modified bed rest which gives you more movement around

I was on what I like to call house arrest. By dr said move about your house as you want but no going to work or shopping trips. I have since been taken off house arrest but still can't go on any long car rides or shop all day.,,...it's all little trips for me

Yes. What PP said. Its a mixed blessing really. Im on BR six weeks now and it can get pretty boring. Luckily I was not told to stay in bed all day. So I spend my day resting on the couch and on the computer. Plus I sleep like 12hrs a day.

If this should happen to you later on in ur pregnancy make sure u ask your doctor to specify exactly what u can and cannot do.

DH had the bright idea to ask OB if we can still and she said no.
