What do you think of this name?
I really wanted Allegra for a girl, but sil said she would get made fun of all the time. What do you think?

If I remember correctly, John Leguizamo (sp?) named his daughter that (this is a few years ago now) and he was on a late night show talking about her saying "yeah, we're calling the next one 'Celebrex'". Anytime I hear that name, this is what I think of. I think its a very pretty name, but that anecdote just killed it for me

I actually love the name Allegra (first heard it on the Sopranos - Johnny Sacks daughter). I love that it means "happiness" in Italian. We have a super Italian last name so I am actually considering it for a middle name but with our last name I think it would be too I-tai, KWIM?

I went to school with a girl who was named allegra and she was made fun of all the time in high school because the allergy medicine had come out, I felt so bad for her

I also knew an Allegra in high school. I personally wouldn't name my daughter that because like others said, it makes me think of the allergy medication.

I thought of the chick in "Hitch" but now that I read the responses I totally forgot about the medicine.
My opinion is if you like it go for it. Kids will always find something to make fun of anyway. There were 10 Jennifers in my grade. 8 were "popular" so no one bothered them. but the other two were not & they actually made fun of their name...I was like...they have the same name as you

I think of is that episode of the Sopranos....the bride who was Allegra.
But that is short lived since the Sopranos is over. And her generation won't even know about that.....overall I think its really pretty and very femenine. You could also call her "Ali" for short if you wanted.

Kids will make fun of anything. That being said I love the name. It was on my girl list, DH on the otherhand said it was to "Italian" so he nixed it.
