What do you do with your receipts..

I have wads of receipts all over the place. I never know what to do with them. What do you do with yours?

if it is clothes and i know i'm not going to return anything because i've worn it and the tags are off i throw them away.

grocery receipts i throw away.

the only receipts i really keep are ones for items purchased for my classroom or college books and those types of career/related stuff. I keep them all in one envelope in a section of my wallet.

i stuff them all in 2 bins i have...grocery reciepts i throw out. i shread every now and then...ok, i only did that once, but i mean to do it more

I shred any receipt of which I'm not going to return. I put almost everything on AMEX and reconcile at the end of the year.

I am the shredding master!

For receipts we need to save we bought a large coupon organizer and we file them in the organizer according to appliances, clothes, Home Depot....

if its a recipit for the house I file it away...you never know what it actually tax deductible.
Same goes for all medical related receipts.

if its for food...I throw it away.
if its for clothes that have been worn and seem to be holding up well after its 1st wash...I throw it away

if its for a gift...I keep it one month after the gift is given...then I throw it away

if I buy anything using debit/credit card I wait until it shows up on my bill, check if the amount is correct and then I shred them...

Everything stays in my wallet until I pay bills... I know I have a huge George Castanza wallet

I empty it out once a month and...

Small items on the credit card, after the bill is checked get thrown out.

Bigger ticket items- items or services for the house/car get filed away. As does anything medical.

We have a 12 pocket accordion folder that we keep all bills in for the calendar year. Every X-mas break I go through it and file (in a bigger cabinet) anything that is worth keeping.

Before we became so unorganized we used to match them up to the cc bill. Now we toss them in a folder. I'd like to get back to the old way. We would match them up to the cc bill to make sure everything was accurate and accounted for and then shred most receipts after the can no longer be returned (usually 30 days). We attach big purchases or receipts that have long return dates to the bill and file.

I usually throw everything out. The only recveipts I keep are the ones from when we go X-Mass shopping. I have an accordion file that gets no use!

I only hold on to receipts for gifts, big purchases or items that I am unsure if I will keep.

I save them

once I throw away a recpt for a shirt I wore- then I washed it and it turned colors- and I couldn't return it- I was alittle annoyed and learned my lesson
