What do you do with all your cds?
I have over 300 cds and DH wants to put them all on a hard drive and put the cd's somewhere, like his parents house. I say put them in binders. But neither of us wants a wall of cd's anymore. What do you do?

Binders and then in the bookshelf. I still use them often, no Ipod for me. I did that b/c that was the easiest way to move overseas with them.

cd's i think are old school....
I would store them into a digital library..
we were gonna sell a box of 150 cd's but ebay lots weren't going for that much.. ended up with the troops in iraq as somebody was collecting them to send overseas..i saw it as a perfect way to get rid of them...

we put them all on the computer and put speakers throughout the house connected to it. the cds are in boxes in our spare room. i don't really want to part with them but they are kind of obsolete nowadays. maybe in a few years i'll part with them.

I won't get rid of my CDs and rely on digital music. If my hard drive crashes or something, I could lose all my files, but I will still have my CDs.
I still buy CDs. I think I'm the only one! Right now they are stored in drawers in a massive wall unit that we have.

My FH and I live together and when we combined our CDs we found we had - no joke - about 4000. They take up an entire wall in one of our bedrooms (about 8 and a half feet long), floor to ceiling. I tell him that if the just sells the ones he doesn't listen to anymore, we could pay for our whole wedding. But he won't part with a single one.

Same here. Plus I like the jacket covers (or whatever they are called). Heck, we still have tapes!!!
But IF I were to get rid of them I would just get rid of the jewel cases and put the CDs and jackets in a binder.

Exactly. I like the liner notes for the artwork and lyrics. I like spending the money for an actual physical product. I feel like the full package is the way an album is meant to be presented.

I agree and thats why I have issues with ordering things from Itunes! Yes I want the actual music of course, but I love the whole CD, I too, like to have the whole product in my hand.
We have over 800 CDs at least!  I suppose if we broke them down to binders we'd save some room!?!?

In the beginning, i guess it was cool to check out the artwork, read the lyrics but just give me the song...g
as for the girls worried about harddrive crashing.... that can happen at any given time with anthing stored on your machine...(pictures, documents)
Its important to back up your machine wether is quartuly, monthly, bi-weekly, etc.. You can buy machines or configure you current machine to run RAID...RAID is a form of fault tolerance incase something happens to 1 of your harddrive (in a raid, you need 2 or more hard drives in your computer)
When we listen to music in the house..we run it all from our plasma..
We see this when browseing for music..
I have over 1000 albums cataloged...everything is searchable and i have 95% of album covers (i have alot of mix cd's or complations that i download that somebody custom makes artwork or I make myself)

I know, I know...I'm terrible about backing my hard drives up. I'm constantly saying that I have to do it, then I don't.
I'm sure I would enjoy having a full digital music catalog like you do if I actually took the time to do it and if I had a computer with enough hard drive space. Right now, i have more music than I have room for on my laptop!

Yeah, i learned the hard way...i lost a good chunk of my collection years ago and vowed never to lose data (if i can control it)
You may want to look into home media server. Its a home server that backup and stores all your important stuff. For avg computer users, this is perfect.
Yes, it does take alot of time to invest into digitizing your library but well worth it IMO...

I still do too. SOemtimes it's cheaper to buy a CD if you can find it on sale, if you want the whole thing, than to pay $1 for each song. However, my CD player just broke, so I don't really listen to them unless I put them on my Ipod. Oh, and sometimes in the car, b/c the battery in the Ipod doesn't last that long.
I don't upload all my old CDs, because some of it's just filler--that I don't need taking up space on my computers or Ipod, but I don't want to part with yet.
I think we will put our CDs in binders eventually. Right now we have to CD holders on a shelf under the broken stereo.

We have thousands of CD's and they are in our front room, which is like an office, catch all room (ie a junk room) We are going to have shelves built into the alcoves eventually to house them. We still buy a lot of CD's as my husband is a big muso.

i keep all my cds i am just not technologically advanced to put them all on the hard drive and all that stuff so i rotate the ones i listen to and keep the others in the garage,

DH built me a CD case.
Eventually it will all be stored in the basement when we make our media room.
I'm a digital/tech geek, but I STILL BUY CDs and DVDs. Unfortunately, most MP3 sites don't offer a high enough bitrate for my liking, nor do they offer a lot of the singles that I'm interested in. (I tend to like a lot of DJ remixes and imports.) I still use my CDs quite often.
I've ripped a lot of the CDs to my harddrive (and I have a RAID-1 drive), but I still will not toss my CDs or DVDs.
I also received for Christmas a UPC scanner so I can throw all my CDs and DVDs into a database. It's the coolest thing ever!!!!

I put the songs I like (not whole cds) on my hard drive. I have all my cds in a binder. I threw out the cases.

I have some CDs in a storage tower that I loathe and some CDs stored in the basement. I don't listen to music a lot but I do have everything on my hard drive and Ipod now.
