i have them and LOVE them. As long as they are sealed every few months, which takes like 10 minutes to do.....they are no problem. I wipe them down like regular counters using clorox or fantastic, I cut on them, I have spilled grape juice on them, gotten tomato sauce on them. They are fine and super durable.
Also, if you do stain or nick them (which in 5 years I havent), you can just do a quick spot sanding.

awww thanks! We did the whole thing for under 3000. Floors, cabinets, back splash, appliances and counters. Gotta love ikea and lowes clearance!

Love butcher block and it absolutely can look modern in the right kitchen. I actually have my whole business (cooking school) with a huge buterblock kitchen island with 12 induction cooktops on it. It looks great!

Thanks for all the replies! I am just in the beginning stages of thinking about redoing our kitchen and this seems like a great option!

I don't like them. They seem like they would be germy because they absorb liquids.

While the above photos of the kitchens look really great, I"m not a fan either, just don't like the look at all for me or my home.
