What are your grammar peeves?
For me, hands down, it's "should of"
I HATE "Should of"
When I read that, it's like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I don't see the difference
I hate when people put an "s" at the end of sentence for possessive when it should be "'s"

I don't see the difference
No worries
It's supposed to be "should have"
I should have dropped off the mail.
When we speak, we can use the contraction:
"I should've dropped off the mail"
So, it sounds like "should of", but it's really "should've", but should be written as "should have" and not "should of"

Re: What are your grammar peeves?
That's a big one for me along with "could of" instead of could have
really bad improper use of apostrophes...
"I alway's go shopping on sundays"
and improper use of it's vs its
This one is more of a spelling one I guess but when people use a word and capitalize it to emphasize it, but then spell it wrong like:
"That is REDICULOUS!"
"That is OBSURD!"
or, my favorite:
"I am APPAULED!"
But none of these things bother me THAT much... I just notice them and cringe a little...

then and than. I can read something that sounds so intelligent and then (not than!!!!) I can't help but wonder how intelligent it really is if the writer can't distinguish between the two. It is one of the easier distinctions in our language.

Re: What are your grammar peeves?
Not technically a Grammar issue, but I don't like when people say:
"Quote On Quote"
When it's "Quote Unquote"
What bugs me even more is when they WRITE "Quote On Quote". If you are writing it, you actually PUT it in quotes.
Example:
Tomorrow we are going to a quote on quote "celebration" for my MIL.

Re: What are your grammar peeves?
All of these drive me nuts, but I particularly despise "could of/should of" and adding an apostrophe to make a word plural.

then/than their/there you're/your etc etc
These types of errors bother me also.
I am resigned to the fact that words/phrases like hafta, how r u, etc is acceptable chat room slang.
