What are you doing with old baby clothes / items if you are unsure about a #2 or #3 (or more)?

I have a basement full of old baby toys, exersaucer, high chair, baby tub, bouncy seats, etc. And 3 huge bins of clothes.

What are you doing with all of this stuff?

We don't really have the room to store it all now that we finished our basement, and my only other choice is that I schlep it up to our attic (which I have never even been in & I'm a little scared of what I might find Chat Icon )!

* I * am undecided about a #3, but DH is DONE and constantly talks about it. Everyone we know (& that knows our 2 crazy kids) keeps telling us that we shouldn't have any more. When they see all of our baby stuff still around they feel the need to TELL me that we should just get rid of everything and be DONE.

((I know that part of the reason that I am hesitating is that it means giving up on the idea of ever having a daughter. I know that with working FT and my 2 boys that I am at my limit, but it is killing me to say that I will never have a Chat Icon)).

I only have one and would like at least one more so I have saved all big items (wrapped and stored in our scary attic) and went through all I the old clothes (3 yrs worth!) saving all nice/special items an donating the rest. I have at least six bins of clothes/shoes/jackets that will hopefully get reused one day!

Thanks ladies! I guess I should just suck it up and brave the scary attic, lol!

That is the best place because the stuff will be out of sight and out of mind for everyone!!!

You could switch the clothes and some other items to vacuum bags. I bought the jumbo ones and was able to fit DD's newborn, 0-3, extra sheets, and her bouncer (taken apart) with lots of room to add more. I also like that it's more airtight than the bins.

I say if you have space for it, keep it. That's what I am doing b/c I have the space and no reason to get rid of it until I am 100% positive I will never need it again.

If you are undecided I would put everything in the attic. The only way I would be comfortable with giving things away is if I knew I was 100% done. For us, we have a boy and a girl. We are done. I have given away a lot of clothing. I have a much harder time giving away toys though. I have younger siblings and feel like they would want stuff (and have expressed that they want it). But they are not planning on having kids for a while. Meanwhile my kids are 5 and 3. I feel like I want my house back and am planning on giving away some baby toys soon.

I am 99% sure I'm done so I got rid of most of the baby stuff. If I go for another I will want new stuff anyway.

so i kept all the clothes and big toys in labeled bags up in the attic and almost got rid of stuff but i said oh ill feel horrible if we do decide to go for #3 and so i kept most of it minus some things that were partially ratty or partially broken or that i didnt use with either one of my girls so most likely i wouldn't with a possible 3rd and those things my sister in law decided she wanted so she took them....and im so glad that i saved the stuff i liked because we are now expecting #3 Chat Icon

I'm unsure if we're having a 3rd. I saved everything from dd1 and now dd2 is using it. As she outgrows stuff I've be donating it. I figure I've gotten 2 uses out of it and I have no more space to store stuff. I'll buy new for baby #3 if and when we go for a 3rd.

I am in the same boat (except I have two DDs). DH says he is soooo done and he says it often too. I just cannot give up the idea of a third. DD2 is only 5 months old so I'm not pushing the issue just yet. As DD2 grows out of stuff I'm allowing myself one bin of clothes I just can't part with and will sell or donate the rest. I figure if we do have a third DD she will get new stuff and if we have a DS he will clearly need all new stuff!

I was in the same boat. I kept most everything. I put some in the attic some in the basement. I lent some stuff to my SIL.
Glad I kept it because I accidentally got pregnant with my 3rd. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

clothes we vacuum sealed. and lugged over to IL's house for storage... other baby items we all stored in the closet...... We have some attic space and basement space, but after seeing how some stuff has turned bad stored at other peoples houses, I only want to keep it in the floors that we are using actively.

We were done after #2. I gave it all away (this was before all the buy/sell/swaps boards and FB pages!). I needed to clean house and make the best use of the small space we had. 5 years later, #3 was decided on and we went with the "less is more" mantra. I got things second hand or didn't get them at all. Worked out well for us. And it was even better since most of the items from #1 and #2 were outdated by the time #3 came along or had expired. Plus, some new things had come out in the mean time and it was nice to be able to get them.

I only have one so far, so everything is in the attic. I can't get myself to sell/give away any clothes because what if I have another boy? So much of DS clothes between 0-2yrs were worn so little. Some stuff still has tags on! So until we decide that we are done....it stays in the attic.

Two boys here also and my dh is not against having a third so I am keeping everything. We don't use our basement at all so I will put everything down there since we are not renovating until our boys are old enough to play down there alone. I reuse everything! Ds number 2 has a very small amount of new clothes and I would have no idea what type of toys to get him when he is old enough, he is still an Infant and ds #1 has all of the classic toys!!

I was unsure about having #3, until we had a surprise. Now here she is, and I have everything I need.

I think you should keep everything until you are ABSOLUTELY sure you're done. All of that stuff is expensive to replace.

Wait for the dust to settle. Then make a decision.

Until you know your done, I wouldn't get rid of it. With #3 we were pretty sure we were done, but never ruled out the posibility of #4. Then we decided to have #4 and I can tell you now that I know i'm done, i'm giving away everything that i've been saving.

When your ready to say your done, you will know!

We are storing everything either in the basement (toys. bouncers, etc) in large plastic bags or the attic (clothes mostly). We have an "end game" plan so if that date come anad goes we'll do a major yad sale I guess.
