DH's cousin is getting married to an extremely wealthy woman. Celebrity-level wealth. According to DH's aunt, the wedding is coming in at $1 million, maybe more (no I'm not making this up and she was almost as floored as I was).

What on earth do you give at a million dollar wedding? We certainly can't cover our plates and any amount we give would basically be laughable.

They're both in their late 30's and have lived together for a while (in a classic 6 overlooking the park Chat Icon )

I think it would be weird to give someone that is a millionaire money!

I wonder what do celebrities give other celebrities at their weddings? I can't imagine they give money, do you think? They must give a gift...

Wow I have no idea. Lol.

If he’s close to his cousin, I’m sure he’d understand that your going to give what you can afford.

Hahaha, I have no idea! We got the save the date and I nearly died. Hand calligraphy (even the return address!), trifold, engraved. This is what sparked the conversation about the cost of the wedding. We knew she was crazy rich but didn't realize the extent of it.

I'm already starving myself and perusing rent the runway. Honestly, that was my first thought- TJ Maxx clearance rack isn't going to cut it this time Chat Icon

I have never been to a millionaire wedding, but I agree you wouldn't & couldn't give money! I guess in this case I would just try to chose a really thoughtful gift, I don't think cost matters at all. Sorry, not much help!

I had to google this, didn't come up with much other than this from E!

"I often notice gift bags and signature wrapping from luxury stores, such as Barneys, Louis Vuitton and Neiman Marcus, stacking up on the gift table at celebrity birthday and wedding soirees," Fary says."

Cross your fingers that the invite says something like “in lieu of gifts, please consider a donation to __________”?

Forget the gift I want to know what this woman does for a living to have $$$ like that!?!

I have no clue what you'd give. If they have a registry I'd buy off that if I could! Otherwise, something unique, personalized?! No clue.

They know you aren’t millionaires. I’d give the same as any other wedding.

I mean otherwise what are you going to give; a Tiffany’s fork? That seems odd to me too

Really? How do you know this (not being snarky)? I can't imagine millionaires wanting people to give them cash. That just seems weird. Plus, since the "cover your plate" thing is a NY thing, what if the plate costs 1,000?

No advice but going to this wedding would give me major anxiety. From the gift to what to wear. Lol.

I would probably do a gift card to a really nice restaurant in the city for the amount that I would normally give to a cousin. I wouldn't write a check.

It's her family's money and I believe she was handed a job by her dad (not sure precisely what she does).

I'm actually kind of excited to pick out a designer gown and get my hair/makeup done. My SIL is talking about renting jewelry Chat Icon

I'm a lurker, but a few years ago I went to a wedding like this. It was DH's fraternity brother. Wedding was over a million dollars at Oheka Castle. How do I know the price tag of the wedding? groom said so, on one of the three "Say Yes to the Dress" shows they were on (the initial show with the bride picking out the dress, a follow up on the wedding, and then another follow up of life after the wedding). The save the date came was a scroll in a box. The invite was also in a silver material box with jewels on it. Thankfully, I got married two years before them, so we gave what they gave. All our friends also gave money in cards. I did not see a gift table with Tiffany, LV and the like bags on it. Have fun at the wedding!

is their a charity or cause they like to work with or support. I would donate $$ in their name.

I would assume so. DH and I are the only ones in his family who did not have a prenup.

They all married up except for him Chat Icon

Yes, it was them...

No, the wedding was very classy. I thought both her dresses were a bit too revealing, but that's me. The wedding was all him tho, I don't think she had a say in much. They even came out to a heavy metal song, that was so him.

The show also made up some details. Like the fireworks, they both went to Grucci ahead of time and selected everything. The MC called everyone to go outside at some point to go see the fireworks. It was not his surprise to her like the show made it out to be.

Donation to their favorite charity. Or a thoughtful gift that is meaningful to them.

I wouldn’t give money.
