Wedding gift- Is this ok? PLEASE BE HONEST

So my cousin's wedding is approaching and I am in her bridal party. To give a little background, for my wedding (she was in my party), she got me a $60-70 shower gift (group gift) and $250 for the wedding from her and her soon-to-be husband.

Her shower is coming up, and I decided to buy her the kitchen aid mixer ($499, marked down to $349 at Macy's when I purchased), a cupcake/dessert decorating set ($35), and a cupcake decorating cookbook ($15) for her shower/wedding gift combo. In total, I spent around $400ish before tax and whatnot.

Is this ok to do, rather than give a traditional check as a wedding gift? I've never given a physical gift as a wedding gift before. My mom was shopping with me when I got the mixer and thought it was a very nice idea, but idk if this is OK to do. What are your honest opinions?? Do you think it's weird that I won't be giving her money for her wedding? I won't be offended! lol

If you think this is OK, do you have any ideas for how to word it in her card that it is a shower AND wedding gift from my husband and I?

I think that's a really nice gift

Sorry, weddings aren't fundraisers and cash shouldn't be expected.

I think your gift sounds awesome and thoughtful.

Yeah it's on LI- I know that's why I am a bit worried!!! The monetary value is definitely a good amount, but it's not a check which was my worry

Could you give her the cupcake decorating kit and the cookbook for her shower and the mixer as her wedding gift?

She prob would end up using the wedding money to buy the mixer anyways so it's more than generous. Don't worry about it. I am sure she will be happy.

Re: Wedding gift- Is this ok? PLEASE BE HONEST

When would you give her anything? Just asking because if you give it all at the shower, will she know that it's for the wedding too or will she still be expecting a check?

I'd honestly get a cheaper $100 gift and give cash for the wedding. A poster said cash isn't to be expected, but let's face it, cash is totally to be expected. I don't think there is any polite way to write that this is a dual gift in a card.

This exactly. I think if you're second guessing it you already know the answer.

Sure its okay to do. Now do you think she would use it? I only ask cause I never registered for a mixer, got one, its still in the box almost 9 years later. Now if i was a baker...i would have loved it.

I'm not sure why you decided to buy the mixer instead of giving cash? It wouldn't even occur to me to do this. It's a great gift, I'm just confused as to why you would buy it if you always give $$.

I would think it was weird to get such a generous shower gift but then nothing at the wedding.

I would give a $75-$100 shower gift and the rest of the money you spent as a cash gift for the wedding.

I don't think its weird to give a gift for a wedding, but you can't just give a nicer shower gift and then nothing later on.

Maybe you could do the accessories at the shower. Then give the mixer to them a couple days before the wedding.

I think its a wonderful gift.

Give her everything at the shower and then give her a nice card at the wedding.

I think it's a fun and generous idea. I got married on LI and received some physical gifts that were awesome. Just because *most* people give cash doesn't mean you can't give a great gift like this. The only thing I would do differently than you- I would stagger the gifts as this poster described:

(And maybe bring it to her house a few days before or after the wedding...it's less on her to coordinate at the reception)
