weaning to whole milk?
When did you start weaning your LO onto whole milk?
DS (will be 11 months in about a week) is on Alimentum formula, I have about 6 quarts left. 1/2 of the cost of this formula is covered through my RX plan, but I have to get it through a pharmacy, and I can only get it in a month's supply of 30 quarts at a time. Being that DS is going to turn 1 in a little over a month, I probably will not need all of the formula... so I called and left a message for the ped asking if I could switch him to regular similac once I run out of the Alimentum. I missed the call from the dr but on the message, they told me to start weaning my DS onto whole milk by putting an ounce in his bottle at a time, every few days... I'm just confused because I thought you were supposed to wait till 1 year to start transitioning?

There is no magic that happens at 12 months, so its fine to start weaning slightly before then--assuming your DC doesnt have any negative reaction to the whole milk.

DD didnt like the milk so I had to do a mix of formula and milk. I can give her some milk straight now but she never drinks it all.

i let ds taste it at 10 months. I am currently giving him little bits- like 1-2 ounces now per dayadn he is 11+ months. Will take some time, but within teh next few months ill be switching him over completely.. but ill take my time.

I have twins & switched one at 11 months (was on soy) my other guy was on alimentum & couldn't get on whole milk until 14 months...he had a hard time adjusting just because didn't like taste.

Agreed. We switched DD cold turkey a few weeks before her first birthday bc it was in the middle of hurricane sandy and we ran out of formula. It was easier to get milk and DD transitioned fine.

DD is a BM baby but once I got my bfp my supply took a huge dip. I called her doc and told him I really didn't want her on formula his response was since she has no bad reaction to yogurt and cheese I could start her on whole milk. Since I have a freezer stash of BM I started giving her 5oz (first thing in the morning) of whole milk a few weeks ago. She took to it like a champ. I did offer her coconut milk but she had no interest in it. Oh I never mixed it with BM. She will be 1 at the end of the month
