Water Coolers at your Job
Our office currently has a water cooler so we can fill up our water bottles, make tea etc. Today, Management decided to take it away since they bought an ice maker which is supposedly filtered, and put a filter on the faucet. I, for one, WILL NOT be drinking out of the faucet, filter or not, I do not even do it in my own home. I feel very strongly about this, and I want to convince management that the water cooler should stay. Please help me think of the pros to the water cooler.
Thanks!!

Re: Water Coolers at your Job
Are you talking about those machines with the 5 gallon water tank?
While I agree I would refuse to drink tap water ever filtered, those dispensers above are FULL of bacteria. The tubing inside is never cleaned. Ask the actual delivery guy. They will tell you.
I honestly always brought my own water bottles at work.

Good luck. We have filtered water here and I buy my own bottled water because I cannot stomach filtered water.

Re: Water Coolers at your Job
we have a water club at my office, we all kick in 5 bucks a month and have our own water cooler, because it's not supplied for us....and usually we have too much money, so some months are free...maybe you should look into that. If they made the decision to get rid of the water cooler, they probably won't listen to your reasons.

Re: Water Coolers at your Job
Well other than being more sanitary........the Hot water will also not be available unless you microwave it, correct?
And who wants to do that nor has the time to do that?
A Hot water spout saves a lot of time by ALL.
Unless they are cutting costs.......they may not budge?
ETA: I am starting to skeeve our water cooler! It's conveneint for hot water.......but I think Im going to just have to bring in my own bottles. It's not exactly in a clean area....

Re: Water Coolers at your Job
We have a water club - it is about $5 each month for the water cooler.
I do not participate I have a great filter on my tap water at home so I just always bring my own water in.

Apparently "they" dont like the way the cooler looks....
Keep in mind, it is in the lunchroom, which only the employees go into.

Re: Water Coolers at your Job
I usually bring my own water in as well, but during an 8 hour workday, I need to refill. i guess I could just bring mulitiple bottles in, but that seems quite silly to me.

Re: Water Coolers at your Job
If they are doing it for an aesthetic reason, I can't see them willing to even let the employees foot the bill. It looks like bringing several bottles from home maybe your only choice.
My office uses filtered water through a hot & cold water dispenser. It's similar to the ones with the bottle only without the bottle. It tastes just about the same as poland spring. I heard horror stories about what happens with those bottles and also that the water is not regulated so I kind of glad about the change.

We have filtered water at work. I drink lots of it. I think it's cleaner and safer than bottled water, so I'm happy that we have the filtered water. Plus, we're in a huge building, so if we had bottles, they would be changing them every hour or more!
Our dispenser also has the hot water option.

Re: Water Coolers at your Job
ewww..water coolers are dirty...but I understand your frustration.
We also have a "water" club...but instead of getting a cooler, we buy cases of water and store them under our desk. I buy a 15-pack of 1 Liter Poland Spring for $12 and that lasts me about a month.

Re: Water Coolers at your Job
Why don't you get a brita pitcher and keep it at work? That way you will get filtered water and not have to be wasteful.

Re: Water Coolers at your Job
Our water cooler at work got contaminated with GASOLINE. Somebody must have used their bottle to transport gasoline and apparently the water bottling compnay doesn't wash the bottles. Yes, I drank some I will never drink from one of those water coolers again. Our company got a free standing unit that filters tap water, it has hot and cold water too. You should look into something like that.

Re: Water Coolers at your Job
Sorry- This may be of no help to you, but water coolers are completely unsanitary- I've seen so many people put their empty water bottles up to the spout to fill them up. That means all the germs. lipstick & whatever else is on their lips goes into your cup.

I was going to say the exact same thing! I see so many ppl refilling their bottles and putting it to the spout right where they put their mouth aka germs.
Sorry I'm no help not sure which is the lesser of 2 evils here lol.

I know- SO GROSS! I ended up putting a sign up next to the water cooler at my job asking everyone to refrain from doing this. Do they listen? NO!!!!!!!!
Needless to say- I dont drink from those water coolers. I rather just spend a dollar on bottled water then drink from those.
Sorry, no help here either.

I may be in the minority here but everytime we change the water cooler here at work we clean it inside, wipe down the bottle and the dispenser area...I think there are far worst things to be grossed out than this...

I agree. I have often thought about the grossness of people putting their water bottles up to the spout…. But then again- I’m still alive so I just move on. I’m sure the world is full of a lot worse germs that I don’t even realize I’m coming into contact with. Eating in restaurants is far worse I am sure.

We actually have a water cooler at work and i bring 2 bottles of water with me everyday. The cooler spout does not look clean and i refuse to drink it. If it was clean maybe i would. But i personally would not drink filtered tap water.

I wouldn't use the water cooler either. I always see people refilling their water bottles and they've got the opening where they drink from all up against the dispenser!! They are nasty bacteria tanks!

We do the same exact thing. About 2 years ago they decided not to provide it for us anymore, so we all decided we wanted it bad enough to just pay ourselves.
